I bought and picked up an adult neutered male 2-3 years old, great dog fit right in my pup Rotty. I had block wall in rear yard raised to 72" high as Red kept taking himself for walk in the desert. because he was so mellow. any one that saw him walking through the desert took him home then called me . You missing a handsome coon dawg. yes where you at. obvious he could have wondered back home if they had not tied him up. So I've been missing my sweet dawg. but I'm sick of driving all over the desert to pick him up. I watched him climb hollow block wall I just couldn't believe it. I know you may say well duh take him for a walk more frequently. I'm disabled ol' Marine from war time injuries I'm good for a couple miles but that's it. I womder if I had a name tag with message PLZS leave red along he knows his way back home? or is there something I can do to incourage more agresion to those wanting to take him home. don't neuter him? would a female stay home? I'm open to any sage suggestions he went everywhere with me sitting shotgun along side me in pick up. such great pets, I bought from Idaho red bone rescue. thx, Bill
Theres really nothing you can do about your dogs behavior towards people, honestly I would much rather have a good dog that loves people then to have a dog thats scared and might hurt someone. So please dont try and make him mean. Now as for keeping him home have you tried looking into a in ground electric fence. If you have an existing fence its alot better. just lay it in with the fence and put the collar on the dog and if he gets neer the fence itll beep and warn him. If he goes any further itll give him a static shock. A hound like you have is a born runner, they pick up a scent and bam their gone... By the time they look up they dont know where they are. Maybe some more basic obedience training as well.
