Hello, I am coming here for advice on my poor dog because I want to know if anyone has had a similar problem or not. My dog Charlie became very ill almost two weeks ago. He stop eating and was vomiting. Three days into it I took him to the vet and couldn't afford much so we asked for anti-bionics and anti-vomiting medication and though we would try that first. Two days into it we realized it wasn't going to work so we took him back for a test and some x-rays. When the x-rays came back it didn't look good. His intestines were incredibly distended or enlarged and the vet said it was likely due to an obstruction. The thing is, that he couldn't really see anything that was obstructing on the x-rays. We looked a little more and see what could be an obstruction but not to sure. He said to wait a couple days to see if he would poop it out, but I don't think he will. Now I fear it is to late for the surgery. I read online that dogs can only survive for a few days with an obstruction but it has been two weeks. Can something else cause the distention of the intestines? Or can a dog go on like this. He hasn't been throwing up a lot. He will drink water a couple times through the day and keep it down, but wont eat and hasn't really been pooping. He gets up wags his tail and plays with the other dogs and doesn't appear to be in pain, but I could be wrong. He is terribly thin due to weight loss though, what can I do. I don't qualify for care credit
What you described could be a number of things. Call your vet back and tell them as much detail as you can about this, and tell them you are on a budget but want to do what is necessary to help your dog. Most vets will work with you (and your budget) to get your dog healthy.
