I have a 1.5 year old male Bichon Frise (Toby) along with a 10 year old female cockapoo (Tootsie) and a 15 year old female Pomeranian (Priss).
My wife and I need to get Toby trained as he is picking up too many bad habits from Tootsie. She is "somewhat" trained as she has "selective hearing" where she will listen to us where it really matters. When we tell her something most of the time she will listen.
Our problem is Toby. I took him to PetSmart to initiate his training by himself and he did fairly well but as soon as he is back home with Tootsie he goes back to his old ways. When I take him on a walk by himself he will listen to a point when I clicker and treat train him but as soon as I am out of treats he does what he wants. He will bark like crazy when I put him in his cage when my wife and I try to eat a meal. Another problem we have is that he is not neutered and marks all over the house if we do not keep an eye on him. I have even tried a shock collar but I am afraid of hurting him and was told a shock collar is only good to reinforce his basic training, which to be honest he still does not have. He knows how to sit but that is about it.
How do I go about having him trained or training him myself so he will know what is expected out of him and also so he does not dart out the front door when we open it. I also cannot afford to spend $2000 to have him trained which I was quoted by a local dog trainer here in Columbia, SC.
I have looked at the video online from Kikopup which is very interesting and would love Toby to be trained like her dogs are and even emailed Emily to have her contact me but I have not received a reply.
I am open to any suggestions anyone could offer as my wife and I do not want him to get hurt but are tired of the marking, barking, and just having him run the house.
