I have a 9 mo old female yorkie. She went into her first heat around Thanksgiving and at the same time I notice some hair loss on her hind legs. There is no scratching or any visible signs of a skin problem or fleas so I didn't rush to the vet. We visited the vet 3 weeks ago and upon exam he couldn't find any issues. He even looked at her skin with a black light for signs of a fungus. He feels that since the hair loss coincided with her first heat it is probably hormone related. He suggested giving her 3 mg of Melatonin twice a day. Has anyone else had this experience or any success with this treatment?
Again she is not scratching or biting, there is no sign of fleas, and her coat along her back is becoming coarse.
