I adopted a 6yr old Pomeranian Saturday. She really has me concerned. She REFUSES to go potty outside. She was a breeding dog so she isn't used to any 'normal' dog life. She will potty in the house so I keep her in a crate. The poor thing is always in the crate. I let her out every 45min to an hour. She WON'T go potty outside, she's held it for so long, this AM she was home alone with my hubby and ended up going in her crate and barking for an hour (he's on midnights and was asleep). He cleaned her up but I'm concerned she'd go in the crate rather than outside.
When she goes out she just sits there, won't explore or walk around. I have her on a leash so she's scared of that too
I would say give it time. People adopt breeding dogs all the time that have never stepped on grass. People adopt greyhounds that have never been on grass. I know a woman in my neighborhood who rescued a greyhound. She said it took time but he is a fantastic dog. I would encourage you when you have time to play with her outside and when she does something right give her a training treat. Do it over and over. Poms are smart she will get the message. In the mean time have you tried potty pads on your floor of your house. When I got my last Pom who's a female she was a stubborn little thing. But she did use the potty training pads and not my carpet. Good luck to you!
