My 5 1/2 year old blonde german shepherd was having trouble getting up so we took him for an xray, he does not have a hip problem, perhaps arthritis give him cosequin and rimadyl. After the xray he got steadily worse not walking well having more trouble getting up. I stopped the rimadyl as I was afraid of it. He was 92 lbs so we were told he should loose some weight, so no more treats, then he stopped eating and would only eat really special food chicken or steak perhaps. 6 weeks after the xray we took him for a second opinion, this vet did a thorough physical exam, studied the xrays we brought, said his hips were good his blood work was excellent and it was neurological because his rear paws did not return instantly. He put him on rimadyl, and I have now been giving him 2 pills per day with food (I am now feeding him a mixture of dry and wet food so he will eat) Anyone out there have any suggestions, he is so young and very alert it breaks my heart to not be able to walk him or go for bike rides with him, he walks half a block then sits down, the rimadyl scares me but I do not want my dog in pain, IF he is in pain, he did not cry when he moved just struggled to move and get up. Any thoughts would be welcomed.
