Hi everyone im just wondering if I need to act on this more as I have a 4month of kitten and recently she has been suckling on my 2 year old dogs nipples. We got the kitten at 3months and she has only started doing this last week. Both animals arr feamales have have been desexed. When the kitten suckles I separate the two and tell them no.
Please help as I have never seen this before I thought it was really cute but dont know if its normal..
At four months your kitten should be weaned and on solid foods but occasionally they want milk. My own kitten is 3 months and even being on solid food tries to suckle on my fingers. The only thing i know of that you can do other than putting them in separate rooms is to tell them no when you catch it. Try using the squirt bottle technique on your kitten coupled with no. Eventually she will figure out that she's not supposed to do that. There's nothing dangerous about it and you don't need to worry. If, after a few weeks, she still tries to suckle try putting some milk in her water bowl.Don't give her free access to it through out the day but set it out every now and then. It may be that she's missing a vital nutrient that's found in the milk.
My pet cat used to sucked my pet dog's nipples before too. I think she's just playing with it since she forgot to do it again after how many days. I think suckling dog's nipple is just normal for the small cat. Maybe they just missed their mum's milk.
I have 3 cats that jump on the counter- I cant get them to stop. It doesnt bother me- I just clean up after they jump on it. You could always use alumimum foil and spread it on your counter and the cats do not like the sound or feel of it (I am not sure) but anyways it might take a few times for them to stop doing it.
