I found this forum because we had to say goodbye to my 13 year old Shih Tzu Gizmoe </3
He had an amazing life and was so well loved.
We are planning to get another Shih Tzu and I am going to need help! 13 years is a long time and I almost forgot the puppy stage. He was never crate trained and to be honest I can't really remember HOW he was trained I just know he was awesome. He would sit by the door and wait (not a peep) until you saw him then he would go out do his thing and prance right back in. He never messed in the house, slept all night and slept in, in the morning too! When I had kids he had no issues adjusting and made himself my 4 year olds sleeping buddy since birth. He will be missed and never duplicated but I will miss his awesome personality.
We meet our new forever friend tomorrow and if we love him can pick him up next week.
So I want to prepare -- where do I start with training -- is crate training the way to go? I want him to eventual sleep with me or the kids :) I miss my snuggle buddy!
Off to read some tips but feel free to share what works best. We do have a Boxer that is crate trained (he was the first dog we ever crate trained) and if he is left out at night he pee's in the house.
Anyway looking forward to reading and learning lots!!
