First time poster here...but I need some help ASAP! Researched this site and it seems like several people had success here so I thought I'd give it a try!
I have a 13 year old cat who is very spry for his age. He loves to climb, jump, wander, and stay outside (sometimes overnight) and sleep inside during the day. Recently (August 12th) we moved into a new house (approximately 3 miles from the old one, up a busy road). I did research on helping cats adapt, and introduced him slowly as well as walked with him outside and monitored him while he explored our perimeter.
This evening he jumped the fence and encountered the dog next door. He narrowly escaped and it was extremely terrifying for me (probably even more so for him). Earlier today also he darted out the front door and made it to the end of our street. He is trying to run :/
He loves being outside and walks around the house all day meowing when he is inside. I feel awful not letting him outside (and I feel awful monitoring him and limiting his outdoor time) because he is not used to that.
Finally, my question is this: I have read about outdoor cats being switched to indoor cats. Is this a good idea? I do not want to make him miserable, but the thought of him getting eaten or never coming back kills me. So should I let him go and hope for the best? Or try to switch him to indoors? Thanks in advance! :(
