just sometimes ? hell the more i deal with the clients at work the more i hate them all the time !!

Perhaps I will do that the next time I sell a puppy. But even so, some people will just shake their head, smile, and think they know what I am talking about... but still it wont hurt

Some people I really like to work with because they are pet people and just love their animals, but I think I meet more people I dislike than like

It is just amazing to me. You would think that is common sense, but apparently it isn't. Even my kids know better than this. Have these people been living under rocks thier entire lives?

When I was a child, we went through about 3 dogs, never keeping them because they were "too much trouble". The first one, a Samoyed, was too big and energetic, chewed everything in sight and was poorly housebroken, he was sent to live on "a farm". The second one, a medium sized american eskimo, became too aggressive and was also sent to live on "a farm". I later learned from my parents that he was euthanized. The third one, a west highland was a housebreaking nightmare, luckily he survived our house, but ruined everything before he finally died of old age. As an adult, I decided to get my own first dog. After struggling through it for awhile, I began reading and educated myself. Since then, every dog I have ever owned was wonderful. I think back to those lovely dogs we "ruined" when I was a child because my parents couldn't pick up a book and find out how to raise our pups. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. LAL

no i disagree. there are some bad dogs out there! just like people some of them choose to do the wrong things and by nature are not very sweet. although i do agree most are ruined

There are alot of people who should be turned in for animal cruelty. We had someone living across the street from us who ran a puppy mill. Everytime the dog went into heat sure enough she would be expecting. We live in Southern Ontario and we get some cold days, cold enough when I would keep the kids home from school, and I would hear the dogs and puppies crying. The jerk would not even let them in the garage. Thank God he moved sometimes not knowing is better. All of our dogs become instant family members. I have always crate trained puppies. The first few nights are hard. A sleeping bag and willing familiy members really helps. Within 3 nights I usually have a trained dog. Just move away a bit further each night until your in your own bed. A crate trained puppy is much easier to handle. At least when you need to go out for a couple of hours, you have piece of mind knowing your house is not going to be destroyed. The previous message about some dogs are bad no matter what may be true if you don't know your breeds background. But the people who raise these dogs need to know that it is a huge responsibility. The breeders should also be asking more questions before they sell a dog to anyone. It really helps.

Wolf I do the same thing with the puppy packet even when people come to look at the pups I very rarely let them leave with it I always tell them to go home and think about I will hold there pup aday or two until they decide. I show the parents and let them see all the work 6-10 pups at a time our...You know how it is at least I use to be like that you go see a puppy they are all cute and sometimes you buy out of impulse then you come home and think oh why did I do this. I do not do that anymore but there have been a few dogs in the past that I kinda bought out of impulse.. I also include in my packet a price list for getting started crate bowls food toys vet dog tags etc. Pets are a big expence and a big responsibilty. Alot of people have had a dog that passed away of old age and the dog was trained housebroken and the perfect lady or gentlemen then they get a puppy and look out People forget the first few months can be ----. Your story is upsetting to me also I wish there was something more that could be done

Having a puppy is like have a 2 year old in the house. Thank God the terrible 2's for a puppy lasts a lot shorter. I think that my dog thinks her name is "NO!" I can tell you this much a dog is alot easier to train than kids. I have two boys ages 7 and 10. Once your dog is trained you can be sure that it will always try to please you, it is instict for them to want to obey. Alot of people do not research the type of puppy they are getting, many are not good with children and not mentally gifted ( harder to train). I do have a problem with my new puppy however. She is a 3 month old German Shep. and we have had her for about 6 weeks now. It is not my first G.S. My other died about 1 year ago at age 10. This new one shows a bit of aggression with my 7 year old but nothing that really concerns me. The play can get a little carried away and my son will run away from her and she will chase and bark. A firm "NO!!" will calm her down quickly. Last night I fed her dinner and pet her, I thought I heard her growl it was really low, so I pet her again and sure enough it became alot louder and she turned her head as to say back off! I took the dish away put her in a sit and scolded her, I placed the food down again and pet her again and she growled again with a bit more aggression. I freaked. I took her food away again told her no and marched her to her crate for about 10 min. When I let her out I again set her food down, and this time she almost did not want to come and eat. I brought her to the food and she began to eat once again. This time I said her name as i pet her and she backed away from the food as to say "go ahead and eat and let me know when your done." I made her eat with me standing there and I pet her again and she seemed fine this time. I think she gets the point that it's not acceptable with me but I am afraid for the children, especially as she gets older. My other dog never did this ever. The kids were able to get bones out of her mouth and she never batted an eye. I trusted her 100% with the kids, but this one i'm not so sure. I am going to start really training her once the kids go back to school, but what do you think of this problem? P.S. the kids hand feed her and she is fine, we have trained her to take food gently from our fingers and she is wonderful with it.

it sounds like she is justs testing the limits. i think that the way in which you are dealing with it is great and you should keep it up. practice making her wait for her food without any complaints, pet her while she eats and practice removing her food bowl while she is eating. i would get your kids to do these excersizes as well (once you are confident on how she reacts to them and with your supervision). also i would suggest an obidience class, and have your kids go along to and let them be her instructors (this will put her in a submissive position to them and emphasize that they have a higher rank then her)

Hey Wolf, you were talking about quizzing prospective families before letting them buy/adopt one of your babies. I see nothing wrong with this. You love them as they are your children , right? Imagine you're an adoption agency for human children, you aren't going to let the baby go with anyone who hasn't passed some serious testing, right? Our local shelter has this LONG form that has to be filled out, which includes roughly 20 'what if' type questions. The answers to these types of questions will give you a great insight as to what type of people are hoping to raise your baby. For instance, ''Your puppy has decided that the oriental rug in the sitting room is the best place to poop, How do you correct this behavior?" YOu'll find a huge variety of answers, and the tone of the answer will help you out a lot. If they think you are insane to ask them to answer these questions, then they don't deserve one of your babies!!! Dodie

That's how we got Storm from the shelter. he was a lab/dane mix. People had turned him because he grew too large for their small mobile home. You'd THINK they'd realize with that mix that he was goning to be on the, um..larger size! Their loos, our gain.
