Hey all, new to this site! I would love to get some more insight on purchasing a puppy. I want to get a Norwegian Elkhound puppy in the Spring. I have talked to a breeder that is very close to my location and she seems very nice and seems to do it for the right reasons.
This would be the first dog that I have owned so I wanted to gather some information from experienced dog owners so I hope you all don't steer me wrong! HA!
Do you all think that this breed would be good for a first time dog owner? I have read that they shed a fair amount, especially when they blow their coat twice a year but outside of that is it really that bad? Would daily brushing help to curb this issue?
What about barking? I have heard good and bad. My aunt used to have an Elkie a long time ago and she said that they used to keep it in the house but "it got to be too much" so they put it outside and it barked constantly. They ended up getting rid of it because of the neighbors complaining about it. I want to have my dog inside and be a huge part of my life so keeping it outside, in my eyes, is NOT an option.
Anyone have any experience with this breed or any advice??
