I have a wonderful, extremely spoiled 1 yr old Pry. After doing extensive research on the breed, we knew we were taking on a dog with a high maintenance grooming before even purchasing her. We fell in love with the demeanor of the breed, their bond to their family, and the fact that they protect their family. My husband's profession causes him to rarely be home, so as a Mother of 5 I needed and wanted a large, protective yet loving dog for our house. Never did I imaging how awesome this breed is!!!!! We love our Sammi so much. She is brushed daily and I use the large metal "rake" type brush and I also use combs and other various brushes on her. She also visits our local Pet Salon every 5 weeks for a day at the dog spa. There, she is deshed with the special shampoo, plus blown out, they trim her hair with scissors and clip the rear end area for sanitary reasons. Sammi is 90% a complete indoor dog. She owns the couches and beds and if she wants to share, will make room for you. She weighs 90 pounds at 12 months old, she loves her family so much that trying to sit on or lay across our laps is not uncommon for her to try. So what is the problem? Despite all of our efforts, she sheds so much hair daily. Our clothes are covered, our couches and chairs are covered. I sweep and vacuum at least twice daily because our floors stay covered, it is hard to breath without getting a mouthful of hair. I know that all of the literature says "do not clip the dog's hair", but I want to know if there is anyone else out there that has a Pyr as a house pet and keeps their dog clipped to avoid all of the shedding in the house. The only time she goes out is to use the bathroom and occasionally run around our acre yard a few times to chase squirrels or stray cats. She has a doggy door and can go out as much as she wants, but she would rather be wherever I am around the house. She is like my shadow. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated!!! We are being overcome by all of the hair. Thanks so much, Kim.
