Hi, I'm new to this! This is my problem: My boyfriend is allergic to dogs. (maybe I should trade him in?; ) He's in the militray, and he flys all the time, or will be when he gets activated. Needless to say, he'll be gone all the time. He wants to buy me a gun, and I want a dog, I would hurt MYSELF trying to use the gun. I read somewhere that malamutes were hypo-allergenic, then got my heart broken by finding out they arent. All the dogs that I've told him about that are hypo-allergenic, he says "no... no... no..." I'm about to give up and say " No puppy for Kayla" If anyone can please give me any kind of help Iwould greatly apperciated it. Thank you, Kayla

Heh I know you love your boyfriend but if he is gone so much, and you're going to be the one staying with the dog, find a hypo allergenic dog YOU like and go with it. Aren't I cruel? BTW if you didn't know, many burglers and criminals are detered by even small dogs, size is not an issue nearly as much as the 'noise' factor. A small dog that makes a big racket around strangers can be just as good. Honestly, if someone is willing to come into your house when the dog is barking up a storm, the size of the dog may not make a difference. There's only a few large hypo allergenic dogs, Portuguese water dogs, American water spaniels, and standard poodles. However, a breed wtih an extremely short coat can be just as good in many cases, even though they are not truly hypoallergenic. Like I said, it's your dog, you're living with it. Go with what you like, especially if he keeps saying 'no no no'.

Dobermans Are very clean and they make excellent excellent watch dogs. i have asthma and so does my son. We have 4 full grow dobes 2 European and two Amer/Canad/lines I am allergis to all long haired dogs but man if you can handle a rottie and a GSD than a dobie is a piece of Cake. Also, please remember what people are allergic to is the animal dander, not the animal. It is possible to keep a dog's (or cat's) dander down by cleaning the house frequently and washing the animal frequently. (Once a week). If you use the correct shampoo, you will not harm the coat. I hear a lot of people (including human physicians) say "Allergic? Then the pet must go." Bull. I know a lot of people who are allergic to animal dander and they can keep their pets just fine. They are ready to go that extra mile to keep their furry family member. If you are willing to do that, you can help your boyfriend and his allergies. Also, there are numerous medicines on the market to help him cope as well.

Hello and welcome. I am new too. If your boyfriend is allergic to dogs you cna still have one, and, you don't have to get a hypoallergenic one. You do need on ewith a short coat, and preferably a small or very small dog. A Chihuahua would be an exellent match. A Chihuahua would work only if you don't plan to have children. The Chihuahau is a sweet dog. The Chihuahua is a frequently abound dog or even set stray because of their tendency to be biters. When aquiring a Chihuahau it is better to get an adult or senior. Still, you can never really have a Chihuahua that is safe with children. If you do decide on a Chihuahua, you should get a female. If you get a grande Chihuahua you may be able to avoid nippiness. Grande Chihuahuas are 7+ pounds. The Chihuahau is a very good companion if you do not have and do not want children. Be careful if looking for a Chihuahau puppy because their are a lot of Chihuahau puppy mills. The Chihuahua is a special dog. The poor Chihuahua is found in rescue all to often because of biting cases and disobedience. The Chihuahua is a truely delightful dog. The Chihuahua is a delightful dog. The fawn Chihuahua tends to be more acceptable as a children's pet than other colors. Chihuahuas are often abandoned due to snappiness, disobedience, and a common behavioral problem of taking human items and running away with them. They are a real delight to own though. Rescue societies see a 7 to 1 ratio in abused Chihuahaus than any other dog. They just need a special owner. Getting an adult Chihuahau would be best. They tend to be dog agressive and never trustable around children. The Chihuahau or Miniature Pinscher would be your best choice due to their small size and short coat. Never put either of these breeds with children. You cna find Chihuahuas in almost ever shelter. Any type of Terrier would also suite you well. Agian, do not trust a Chihuahua with children. They WILL bite a child. Chihuahuas love to sleep on the couch and that is something that you will have to accept or choose another breed. The best Terrier you could pick is a Rat Terrier because of their short coat. I due urge you to get an adult though. If you travel a lot, go with the Chihuahua. A Chihuahua can be a surprisingly good protection dog. They will not hesitate to attack a burglar and will pull on the pant leg of a burglar. They have even been reported to run between the feet and try to trip a burglar or an attacker until they fall. After, the dog will bite the throat or face of the attacker. I really can say that an American Indian Dog would be a terrible mistake because they are biters even to their owner. The Chihauhau can be found almost everywhere. I have seen over 75 rescue Chihuahuas go in and out of my local shelter in 4 months. Malmutes are big shedders, Chihuahuas hardly ever shed. I havn't heard of a person yet who can say no to a Chihuahau!

A Doberman,irishwolfhound, or great dane would fit what you want. easy to keep clean has the look of dont mess with me. you should feel incredibly safe with either one. if you want a Dane i know a responsible breeder. if you want a dobe get a well bred health tested and temperment tested line.either of these breeds are great as long as family raised and good responsible breeder. heh, you guys are awesome, My boyfriend doesnt want a small dog, I never thought of a great dane, the only problem with that is,(and I coudl be very wrong) they arent that smart(?) Keeping that in mind, my boyfriend would want a smart dog.. see my whole problem IS my bopyfriend, but I love him to death. I get little pop up windows for this special shampoo, and I asked him if that would work and he said NO. (he's a very picky guy). Oh, I showed him a picture of a irish wolfhound, and he said no. why I dont know. what I need to do is take him SOMEWHERE they have dogs, and see which one he has a reaction too. Another thing: I could prolly have a dog of my choice, BUT it would have to be an outside dog, and I'm not cool with that, I feel that a pet is part of the family, and they should be in with the family. All dogs shed. The only ones that don't are the hairless breeds, (American Hairless Rat Terrier). Some breeds that are considered non-shedding actually do shed (the hair comes out) but it stays in the coat until brushed out, so you don't find little doggie hairs all over your house. If kept properly groomed, terriers don't shed much, but if allowed to grow, the dead hair comes out in little tufts. The Irish Water Spaniel, the Portuguese Water Dog, and Poodle, as well as the Kerry Blue, Soft-Coated Wheaten, and Bedlington Terriers, shed very little. Their hair must be cut. They lose just about the same amount of hair as a person does when they are combed. Other breeds that don't shed much at all are Silky Terriers, Irish Water Spaniels, Briards, Bouviers, Bichon Frises, and any of the breeds with hair rather than fur. The "double-coated" breeds (those with a soft undercoat covered by longer outside hairs)usually shed and lose most of the undercoat twice a year. This is called "blowing coat". Giving your dog a warm bath and brushing thoroughly several times during this moulting period will keep the furballs in your house to a minimum. Also, many dogs enjoy being vacuumed with the household vacuum cleaner.

I cant find a single ONE in california.I just have that website to go by, and a few emails I have exchanged with the owner. Honey, just get the dog you want.they are a 10-14 year commitment. boyfreinds come and go.In 2 years from now this guy could be history.if you keep your dog really clean shampoo with any dandriff shampoo and finish off with citrus shine conditioner for the coat. (go look at my dogs they have awsome coats!!) feed 1 cup cook oatmeal and 2 boiled eggs weekly and a good natural dog food like diamond you will be just fine. he sould be just fine with it. Hey all, long time no posting.. sorry about that, my b-day was the 22nd, so I was out of town the 21,22,23... On my b-day, my sweet bf, took me to a doggie park, and we ran into a gentleman that had a sable wolf and a german shep. he suggested that me and my bf go to a dog show the is happening the weekend of the super bowl at the Cow palace in San fran. he said that there will be over 3000+ dogs, and that you would be able to go up and pet them... (i thought that was odd) anyways, I hope everyong is having a great weekend! OH I saw a real life Irsh wolfhound... if that dog was to stand on its back legs, it would tower over me but quite a few inches.. I think, on all fours he came to my chest leavel. VERY big dog... The Greyhound is a good breed. They are beautiful. There are many of them in rescues because of the race tracks. The Greyhound is a true angel of a dog. They are really beautiful. An older dog would be best, since they are already housetrained. Get a small one, since some can be quite domineering. They are very fast dogs and must be taken for a walk every day. The Greyhound needs a yard. And, they need to have an owner who can be in control. You must give your Greyhound ample affection, or they get quite sad. But, they really do need a nice sized yard to exercise in. Watch out for some of the males, as they can be hyper active. Also, some will destroy your home if left alone too mutch. Also, if left alone they will bark. Males tend to roam. They are very restless indoors and need a lot of exercise. Greyhounds will chew your furniture if bored. They wil be a big barker if left alone all day. Some will soil the house. Males roam. Some steal food. They will get very restless indoors, I can't warn you enough. Also, Greyhounds will sometimes jump on visitors. And, they are prone to dominance problems.

Autumn I got tickled when you said that Greyhounds were the angel of the dog world, then proceeded to list bad habits that they have. Some of which are wrong, and some are not. I've never heard of them described as being barkers, many many dogs are destructive when left alone. And I've *never* heard of them having dominance problems. If anything, it's the exact opposite. They're very very sweet dogs though, but they are big (around 75 lbs full grown) and they do require a lot of room. Not only that they can never be allowed to run leash free because they run faster than they think, and if they see a rabbit, your dog could be literally 5 miles away before it stops to look around and wonder where it is. Ok, now to the reason that I posted, dog shows are a fantastic place to get a look at lots of different breeds that you may have never seen, or that are extremely rare. Regarding petting them and such, most dogs are going to be fairly well trained, but lots of times the people that show them are primping them up and making them look very nice for the time spent in the show ring. What I do when I go to shows is I compliment the owner/handler on how pretty the dog is, if I don't know what breed it is, I ask. You should always ask if its ok to pet the dog, just in case they are waiting to go into the show ring. Usually owners and handlers are much less tense and friendly after they've already shown the dogs. I love dog shows, I'm going to one myself on next Saturday!
