A protodog is a basic dog, the result of natural selection. The term is sometimes used to refer to the first dogs, which were perhaps somewhat wolfish in appearance. The term is also used to refer to a type of pariah dog that exists all over the world. These dogs tend to be yellowish or reddish in color, sometimes with a black mask, and to have prick ears, narrow muzzles, and deep chests (but they are more sturdy than a greyhound). They also tend to be 25 pounds to 45 pounds but can be larger. I chose the name because Argus ( http://www.dogster.com/?67992 ) looks like a protodog. She's 57 pounds, but the great thing about types is that they don't have strict rules.
