Bichon Frises

I have three kids (6, 3 and 2) and am looking at getting a Bichon Frise. I have read that they are good with kids, but are they good with younger kids or older kids? anyone have any experience with Bichon Frise's and kids?

This breed is fine with all kids. I live with my seven-year-old neice and eight-year-old nephew and Frosty is good with both of them. He was at my other nephew's birthday party and got along fine with all the kids.

I have two, one male approximately 9 and a female approximately 1.5 years old. The male is very protective of my son and won't hesitate to bite anyone that he feels is a threat. This started almost immediately after obtaining the dog. My son is now 15 and the dog is still protective of him. When out in public, he is the ideal dog. Could this behavioral problem have been corrected early on ? I don't know. Now the female is completely friendly to all, loves to be around anyone that will pay attention, even those that won't. The only one she ever shows any aggression toward is the afore mentioned dog. She is 1/3 his size but typically demands attention before he gets any.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this breed to anyone with or without children. I would however take care with very small children, not only with this breed, but with any. They have a tendency to pull hair, etc... which any dog might not take a liking to.

I have a Bichon, she is scared of children. She has never been harmed by any she is just afraid of them. But honestly, ours little bichon has several issues we are trying to work through.
Something else to keep in mind when getting a family pet is not only do you have to teach your children the right way to handle a puppy, but you have to realize this breed does need regular grooming. I am a retired groomer, this breed needs to be groomed every 6 weeks. I don't know what most people pay, but in this area we get anywhere from $35-$50 depending on the dog.
I'm telling you this because a lot of people get dogs without considering the up keep, and with small children in the home its very hard having a puppy running around and using the potty in the home until they are house trained.
