I live in a multi-dog home. I have a 3 yr. Black lab and a 10 week old pit bull, we had another pit bull but he got old and died, but he got along great with princess because we introduced him to princess (lab) when she was a puppy. And now were intorducing sammy to princess as a puppy and they get along great so far.

I have a dog like that right now,one that would kill every cat she sees and dogs,she'll roll them up like a donut,and kill them. Ya think i'm going to pts Tigger. I think not.You could've tried a Pit rescue or keep the dog seperate from the other dogs.You should've learned about this breed before getting those 2 dogs,no excuses.You not only pts one Pit ,but 2 ,it makes me sick.Yes the dog was dog on dog aggressive but not human. My friend right now has a very dog on dog aggressive male Pit named Rudy,he can't be in the same room as Harley. He rolled Harley her Cocker up. Almost killed him. Ya think she was gonna pts,no she keeps them seperated 4- ever. If Tigger and Pipey my dogs got it on,I wouldn't pts either dog,just seperate them.You could've gave both dogs up to foster or rescue. You don't derserve another Pit,ever.

There's no reason for your actions,none. To understand a Pit is know the dogs history. They are a fighting breed,and many can not co exist in multi dog house holds. You should've known this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reading stuff like this really pisses me off.Too many of these dogs loose their lives because of stupidity!!!!!!!!Ignorance!!!!!!!

Do you really think a pit rescue would adopt out a dog aggressive dog? They can't be changed.

halle: Pit Bull Rescues rescue Pits that are dog aggressive all the time. It's just recommended that the Pit is an only dog. That holds true for a lot of breeds that are dog aggressive. The only type of dog that is unadoptable is a people aggressive dog. Pit Bull rescues usually don't adopt to homes with same sex dogs. You could have tried a Pit Bull Rescue or placed in a home as an only dog/no cats.

Yes they would ,they would place the dog in a only dog home,do home checks,interview the prospective adopter.It's the breeds nature for dog on dog aggression,some more then others ,some extreme like my Tigger,just the sight of a strange dog,the bark or smell,makes her insane.This is what breed rescue is for,they place specail needs dogs also. You had no business having those dogs .

IN fact I have rescued and fostered pit bulls for the past 8 years and have had several DOG aggressive Pit bulls whom have been adopted to loving homes where they were the ONLY dog. Most rescues have their dogs temperament tested so they know before hand if the dog is dog aggressive or should be in a home without cats or small children. Have you ever visited the PBRC website? They are a rescue organization who deals with strictly APBT's. When you read a dogs bio on PBRC it clearly states if the dog can be in a multidog household or if it gets along well with cats. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for what you did to your dogs. You could have at least tried to rehome them. Most rescues will do whatever they have to do to help save a dog in the situation your dogs were in. I have known plenty of people who have owned dogs who WERE NOT Pit bulls and unfortunately had to find out the hard way that their dogs could not be trusted with cats. In fact IM sure if you took a poll on this forum and asked how many people have owned a dog at one time or another that injured or killed a cat the response would be overwhelming. And I would almost bet that 99% of the people did not have their dogs PTS.

I think it is sad you had the dogs put to sleep. I have a dog right now that tried to kill my cat. I wouldnt have her put to sleep if she did. I would place her in another home with out cats. She didt get ahold oh Chester, so Momma is still with me. She doesnt come in the house at all because we have 7 cats and wouldnt want her to hurt any of them. Im not going to bash you. People make decisions that i dont like but there is nothing i can do about it. Maybe you didnt know about rescues at the time or mabe you didnt think they would take the dogs. Whatever the reason i respect your decision because you were doing what you thought was the best thing at the time.

This is really a touchy subject. In some ways I agree with Halle and it others I don't. In the early eightys I had a few Shar-Pei's. The first was Arthur and then came Airelle. Arthur was "mean" from day one at eight weeks old. By the time he was 6 months old he had killed my two cats and attacked Airelle twice. She had to be stitched up and had drain tubes all over her. At the time I had two small children. I took him to obedience class and worked with a private trainer. He was good as gold as long as he was in my sight. My youngest child was in the hospital and I had come home to change clothes and found that Arthur had busted through the fence and killed the next door neighbors 10 week old cocker puppy. Mind you I had a wood privacy fence and he went through it. I was taken to court and had to pay a bunch of money. By the time Arthur was a year old he again had attacked another dog. This time at his obedience school. The next attack was the one that did it for me. He saw a person walking their dog and he went through the window of my house and killed the dog. I then made the decision to have him pts. If I would have placed him in a rescue then I would have always worried about the damage he had done. Regardless the breed I am a firm beleiver that if the dogs is capiable of mauling and killing another animal then it is capiable of doing that to a person or a small child. I have six dogs living in my house with a Pit included. Luckily for me I have no aggresive problems "yet" and when I do I will seperate them but if one decides they are going to be hell bent to get to or even kill the other for no reason then I would have that dog pts.

rednosered, gina h, I hate to tell you but I have rescued a pit bull and it bit a child now i am going to court for the people are sueing me. What you idiots are saying is that it is ok to kill a cat but not to put a pit to sleep ?? You people need to get a life you do not no every pit out there your bragging on how mean your dogs arehow they rolled a cocker this is why pits have a bad name is from people like you!!

I give Pit Bulls a bad name? Whatever! I have dedicated a huge part of my life to rescuing and fostering these dogs and have been a strong advocate of the breed for a very long time. Take your nonsense else where.

If you knew that much about DOGS you would no that they are all different just like people !!! How do my posts not make sense? Because I do not believe in an eye for an eye? My only motive is to point out how important it is to educate yourself before owning this breed. Dog on dog aggression as well as the occasional dislike for cats is common knowledge among people who own Pit Bulls even those who do not. Some dogs just have higher prey drives then others and simply look at cats as prey. But that does not mean the dog should be terminated for something that comes natural to it.

ginah Ok then I understand what you are saying but you have to understand that Halle did the right thing and had the dog humanly put down instead of letting it kill other dogs do you think you could of changed this dog that was dog aggressive and knew that it wouldnt kill another dog or cat or human ???

That's just the thing about this breed dog aggression is common in fact in most Pit bulls it's to be expected. If every dog aggressive Pit Bull was put down for that sole reason the breed would be nearly non existent. And as far as cats go it's not only Pit Bulls who have the potential to kill a cat. In fact a month ago my Pekingese was attacked by a neighbors Bird dog on my property and when I tried to get her away from the dog I to was seriously attacked. This was also the same dog who came onto my back porch weeks before and mauled our family cat to death in front of my children.

Gina, may I ask where that bird dog is now? What did the owners do? if anything? Sorry to hear that happened. Other then killing your cat and attacking your dog was the dog human aggresive? Do you think he would have attacked you if he wasn't attacking your dog?

Omg ,this is really starting to irratate me.Never ever confuse dog on dog aggression with human aggression .IT IS NOT THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!! I'm not bragging about my dogs, dog on dog aggression or my friends. I'm saying I would never pts my dog or my friend pts her dog for dog aggression. You just become accomstomed to your dogs needs and take care of them accordingly. Halle a rescue would have placed your dogs in the proper homes.Would any of you people pts your dog for killing a cat. Dogs kill cats ,and small foo foos.I never walk Tigger the time of the day when I know loose dogs are around,only early morning,or early afternoon when people are at work,she don't go to dog parks,no pet stores,when she goes to the vet she goes in through the back door,and out the back door,she wears a muzzle for her visits. Tigger by no means is human aggressive,she loves her family. She's worth the extra work,she's not mean. Her dog aggression is natural for her,this is what Pits where bred for FIGHTING.It's a natural response for her.I would never pts unless she was dangerous to humans.

Oh man this is avery long complicated story. So I will make it short. I had no idea of the dogs history when it killed my cat. I talked to the dogs owners and the whole matter was simply blown off I got a simple apology and that was it. I made a report with an animal control and hoped that was the end of it. Then the first part of July I started seeing the dog hanging out on our property again so each time I just shooed it away. Then about a week later I was outside in my yard with my Pekingese on leash. And I saw the dog on my property again and it was approaching us. So I started walking practically running towards my house when the dog came running at Fancy I tried to get to the house before he was able to approach us but unfortunately I did not make it in time the dog had already latched on to my little dog and was going to tear her to pieces. I kicked him away and was able to pick Fancy up and when I did the dog went after her again but attacked me instead. The dog then knocked me to the ground and continued to attack me, Luckily my oldest son came outside and heard me screaming so he ran in and woke his dad up he came running out grabbed a cattle prod from the barn and came out and shocked the crap out of that dog over and over again. I ended up with stitches in my face, hand and over 30 stitches in my right side as well two broken ribs. Plus a broken finger. I then had to get surgery done on my hand due to nerve and tissue damage. We currently have a lawsuit pending against not only the owners of the dog but the city as well. The dog had also been reported prior to all this for biting a four year old girl in the face and killing another neighbors small dog. All the other incidents were reported but never acted upon.

I'm definitely siding with Halle on this one, guys. I know Halle personally and I've spent time at her house with her dogs. Those pits showed ZERO signs of aggression before.. was almost like they reached that age of maturity then went nuts. Halle failed to tell you that the dog attacked was a tiny PUPPY that was on a leash and had no way of defending herself and did nothing to provoke such an attack. If Halle had placed these dogs in another home, then who knows the havoc they would have wreaked. It's much safer to just humanely put them to sleep. Ever watch Animal Cops Detroit? They put all pits down automatically. There's a reason for that. Use your brain. I also agree with Terra that it sounds like you're bragging about how aggressive your animals are. I'll tell you, your dog gets onto my property and kills one of my cats or one of my dogs and your dog is going down. End of story. I'd also like to counter the argument that those dogs were put down for doing what comes "naturally" to them. Alot of people get into major trouble for doing what comes "naturally." Get a clue.

Do you really think that dog should be alive ??? My gosh your poor children having to watch something like that !!! Do you honestly think your children should have to go through something like that , Im not saying its just pit bulls ANY dog that acts like that should be put to sleep shit we put humans in jail for life for it!!
