I have 4 pitbulls (all shelter dogs which I do not know anything about their past) and a (golden retreiver/yellow lab who is a neutered male)(never spent one day in a shelter. Each and EVERY TIME THERE WAS EVER A DOG FIGHT IN MY HOME, THE Golden Retreiver/Yellow Lab was the agressor!!! If any of my pitbulls wanted to kill him they could. My dogs get along fine. I have both female and male pitbulls. I also have cats. The dogs sleep with the cats. Susan

i am having a problem right now with my pitbull/lab mix bullying up my bfs small chi mix. but i would never put my dog to sleep for it!

Are sure the dog is bullying or just playing? If the dog is that agressive maybe the dog needs to be in a only dog home.The dog needs to know that you are in charge and what you will and will not tolerate from the dog. Pits also have very high prey drive towards small animals.

Not owing pits, so may say I should but out, but when it comes to dog aggression there is no breed that "owns" that exclusivly. ANY dog can be dog aggressive and MOST that are are SEX AGGRESSIVE, including my boxers. " Okay, that may be the case but just because it is in a loving home doesn't mean it won't "snap" when it decieds to. So because my feamle boxers hate each other now, I did not give them a "good loving home?" Is that what you are saying because if so, you'd better come out of the dream world. Any one who owns a dog of certain breeds: ie; pits' dobbies, rotties, boxers, pointer bird dogs, greyhounds, akita's, dauchsun's and LOTS more and says " my dog will never attack another dog, because they are not aggressive or sex aggressive" you had better watch out, becasue they can and do "snap" in an instant. so if you believe that providing a "good and loving home: is all they need to keep from becoming aggressive, i guess you live in "perfect" because in the real world that unfortuanly is not always the case. 2 of my females can't be around each other, but my most aggressive one loves my youngest female. my white male hates any other male. my fawn male, would let anything come up to him and I dare you to tell me that they don't have a loving and good home. I just know what has to be done to keep them safe- we keep them apart. and it goes the same for some of the other posters, gina, shinyblack, true-pits, we love our dogs and we know that WE are responisble for keeping them apart.

Pit bulls... like any dog... will respond to how they are raised and taught. I have been a veterinary assistant/tech for 8 years now and have vast experience with the breed. My pit, who still lives with my ex because he loves her so much, is probably the best dog I have ever owned. She was owned by some kids who were walking her without a leash in NY (illegal). She got hit by a car and shattered her pelvis. They surrendered her to our shelter and before her repair surgery was finished, I had adopted her. She is awesome with other animals and children. Just an overall great pet. Pit bulls are very inteligent and need someone who understands what is going on in their head. They respond very well to positive reinforcement and will thrive on affection and love. The reason they get a bad rap is from the people who continue to use them for their originally intended use (100+ years ago) of fighting. However... they were not intended to fight each other, but as their name states... BULLS. They are just very loyal, and will almost always do as their owner trains them. If you train them with love, they will show nothing but love in return. I encourage you to read up on the breed and talk to some reputable breeders and rescues in your area. Spend time with the breed and figure out for yourself if this is truly the breed for you!!! Good luck with your search for a new pet, and remember, there are tons of pits in shelters that will make wonderful family members.

Im not to sure on what to say except please make sure that you keep your dogs confined and make sure that they can't get out.

In response to your question I can only tell you how my dogs are.

I have two APBTs.
Harly is 5 years old. When he was a puppy we also had a kitten. They got along fine.

Since we got him he was socialized with my mother in laws German shepard Buddah. I won't say that as Harly got older he and Buddah had their tiffs but they never fought. One day the neighbor's chow got loose when we were all sitting in the back yard. It charged into the yard and attacked Buddah. That is when Harly went to his defense. Because Buddah and Harly are well trained and disciplined when told to stop they did. That's when the Chow turned on my husband. He still has a scar the size of a quarter on his shin bone from the bite. If Harly hadn't gone at him again who know how bad it could have been. We broke the fight again long enough for the Chow's owner could grab him and take him away. He was quantined for 10 days.

I don't like to be breed specific but as for Harly he has no animal aggression. Since then we have had 3 other cats join our family and his companion Kiya who is now 2. They are like a couple.

Kiya became more protective of the yard perimeter after she had puppies. But when we brought a new kitten into the home she accepted Dinah as a part of our family.

Hi! I own three American Pit Bull Terriers . Two Females and one Male. They are my babies . I worried at first about dog to dog aggression but I could not resist and now I own Delilah 2, Tatunka 10 months, Budha 3 months. I have not had any problems so far . And I hope none will arrise in the future. I Love these dogs rotten and Spoil them beyond belief. I plan on having my girls spayed hopefully to avoid mammary cancer if that should ever come around. And wether I'll have Budha neutered I am going to hold out for now, He's still a babyand very small. I hope this helps in some way. If you have the Time and patience this is one of the most rewarding breeds. My dogs are being raised together and seem to get along great, even though they have polar oppasite
personalities they mesh very well. Delilah's high strung and busy while getting Tatunka off the bed to go outside is impossible if she doesn't feel like getting up, what a snuggle bug. And last but certainly not least Budha a Rambunciuos pan in the neck who likes to cuddle right underneath my armpit ( I am glad I wear deoderant.)
Those are my dogs and I am proud to be their mom/owner /guardian.

It depends on how well socialized the dog is.

Shadow, my lab/pit mix loves almost all other dogs. The only other dog she has ever growled at were two labs. when she was a puppy these two dogs were nipping at her, teasing her, and ramming her from the side, crushing her like a sandwich dog. I came and found she shaking, and growling, her little heart pounding so very fast, and picked her up. Poor puppers. : (

Yes it is old. Four years old. So why revive it ? The OP, and the majority of people posting on it have long since vanished.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.

To look it up and read it is no problem but I am assuming what Opie meant is why did you find it necessary to post on it just saying it is old which is obviouse and bring it back up to the top.Im shure no one was p*ss*d off just wondering what your reasoning could have been.
