I knew onions and chocolate are bad for dogs. I recently read that grapes and especially raisins are very toxic to dogs. Never knew that before. Anyone know any other common table foods dogs shouldn't have?
Avocado (including guacamole), the seeds stems and leaves of apples apricots, cherries peaches and plums, macedamia nuts, coffee, and fresh garlic cloves in large amounts. If you feed garlic, its safer to use garlic powder, as the toxins have usually been removed.
Bread and lettuce Is also bad for them like you know how most people feed their dogs the pizza bones??Well your not supposed to. Also any cooked vegetables are bad too.....Wow dog's sure can't eat alot of things can they?? lol :o)
Why is bread and lettuce bad? Never heard of those before. My dogs eat bread every once in a while. And cooked veggies? People give them to their dogs if they feed a raw diet. My dogs always eat cooked veggies. Apple seeds (lots of them) are bad, the leaves on a tomatoe plant are bad, grapes and rasins (if given alot).
Hi there, I'm new here and thought I would post on this subject. I heard from my Vet that bread is bad for dogs because it expands in their stomachs and could cause problems. I also heard that the tomato leaves are bad for dogs. Grapes and peach pits aswell. But I also wonder why cooked vegis are bad when raw ones are good?
I was curious about the avocado. Years ago I feed my dogs a food called Avo-Derm. It was made with avodaco. It had natural oils in it and was good for dogs with skin problems. I think it's still sold in feed and grain stores. It was a pricey dog food back then.
I did not know about most of these either. I have to admit my dogs eat bread, including pizza crust. I had no idea. One thing I do know is that last year someone's lab here where I live died and they reported it on the news because it was so unusual. Come to find out the dog was playing outside and ate a nut off of a short palm tree. I can't remember the name of the type of palm, but I would know the tree if I saw it. They did this special report because there are so many of these trees hHave a good day! Good question Pitpat.. This is a quote from: http://petplace.netscape.com/articles/artShow.asp?artID=4774 Quote: Avocados. The leaves, fruit, bark and seeds of avocados have all been reported to be toxic. The toxic component in the avocado is "persin," which is a fatty acid derivative. Symptoms of toxicity include difficulty breathing, abdominal enlargement, abnormal fluid accumulations in the chest, abdomen and sac around the heart. The amount that needs to be ingested to cause signs is unknown. Do not feed your pet any component of the avocado ----------------------------------------------------- From what I understand the toxic componant in Avocado is 'persin'. Maybe Avoderm has this toxin removed??...Now I'm interested to find out.
I also heard potatoes are not good. I think that anything with too much starch should be kept away. (breads, pasta potatoes etc...) None of my dogs liked bread anyway. I have never given it to Aisha yet
