I went to go give my 5 month pup his monthly meds today. (frontline, heartguard, etc.) As I was getting ready to apply the frontline I felt a swollen lump under his skin between his shoulder blades. I haven't noticed it till now..he has had any shots since the 27th of august, It's not swollen skin, it is and feels like a lump under the skin!!!! Can anyone help me? I don't know what it is should I worry?
it is hard to tell what it is. the only think that i can tell you. is take the dog to the vet. Lumps are serious and they are cause to worry. THe only to tell if this serious is a vet and some tests maybe a bi opsey.
it could be a lump from the vaccines he received on the 27th. if they do develop a lump from them it takes several weeks for it to go away. in my clininc we mark down where animals get their shots, especially cats, in case a lump develops so it can be monitored. in cats it is especially important because some vaccine lumps can turn into cancer in cats. they are called vaccine induced fibrosarcomas. it could also be a fatty lump called a lipoma, or a cyst. how old is your dog and what breed is he? if he is a boxer i would not hesitate and take him to the vet right away. boxers are extremely prone to cancer. any lump found on a boxer should immediately be removed completely by surgery and biopsied.
If your dog is only 5 months old, more than likely it's nothing to be alarmed about. It can be anything from a insect bite, abscessed hair folicle, to a fatty tumor. My dog Grace had a hard lump the size of a pea on her rump. It wasn't red or anything. I kept an eye on it for a day or so and it went away. So I'm guess maybe a mosquito bite. If the lump is still there after a week or so or it changes in appearance, go to the Vet. They will draw some fluid out of it and biopsy it.
When my boxer was a puppy, the shots she got at the vet would swell up to the size of a baseball. I'm not sure what type of puppy you have but Boxers are very sensitive to shots. Eventually after a day or two the swelling went down to the size of a quarter and then disappeared. I would contact the vet and make an appointment. It may be nothing to be alarmed about but its better to have it checked out anyway. Good luck :)
thanks so much for you guys imput. He is a min schnauzer. The lump is under the skin. The skin between his shoulder blades is swollen but you don't know about the lump till you pull the skin a little and get to feeling. He will definately be at the vet tomorrow!!! I will keep you guys posted on his condition. if you find anything else out let me know!
