The first day Molly discovered Pete, my Indian Ringneck (small parrot) she sat there for hours listening and watching. The beagle in her though makes her way to curious. Pete's beak would hurt that little nose if she ever sticks it in there!!! The other two dogs could care less about Pete. Does anyone else own birds? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v428/AnjiInCanton/pete.jpg That is "Peg-Legged Pete" he had a healed broken leg when I bought him seven years ago and he is a little gimpy!! Gets around good though!!
I have a cockatoo which is alot bigger than your little indian ringneck though and my dogs are scared of her because she screams so loud! They dont ever mess around her just when she throws food out for them to eat. A cockatoo could defiently hurt a dog because they have 500 pounds of pressure in their peaks so if I were the dogs I would say away from her too!
My sister-in-law has a parrot and a golden named Wogan. Wogan is only interested in Paulie when the bird is eating. Course that's usually when Wogan is interested in anything, is when food is involved!
ye i have 7 birds 5 cockateils called buster, max, zara, tom and jerry and 2 little budgies they r called willow and billy, my dog is fasinated with them. i useto have an indian ringneck called ring but sadly he broke his neck, he could say hello and his name, he was very shy.
We have a cocatiel which Layla is facinated with. We let her out and hold layla and tell her nice and let her get kinda close. A couple of times she lunged at the bird. We used to keep the bird clipped but now we let her feathers grow out in case she needs to get away from the dog. Lately, Layla is getting used to her and pays less and less attention to her.
We have a very tame Rainbow Lorikeet named Murphy. We had him for a few weeks before we bought our Dalmatian, Floyd, so they have basically grown up together. Thankfully they are friends and Floyd play bites at him but never actually gets the bird...but when Floyd is asleep on the couch, Murphy loves to walk up and give him a nip on the nose to get back at him for ganging up on him! This is our first bird and I'd say we will have them forever now. We never knew they could have such great little personalities.
Cool....fellow bird lovers also!!! We once owned a Macaw. When we moved though she got very stressed and I let a friend take her. My friend turned her dining room into a huge sanctuary for her birds...it was so cool. Sinbad was very happy there. Our household was too active and crazy for her. I miss her greatly!! She taught Pete how to talk. I tried for years to teach him but he wouldn't do it. Had her for a week and he was repeating everything she said. He still says hello everytime the phone rings!!
Hi there, I have a yellow naped amazon, African Grey and a quaker..AND a male Akita - big boy! hehe. He is good with the birds, only had the quaker in his mouth once when he was a pup, he was trying to play with it though. Didnt hurt it at all. The odd time he looks in thier direction when they call his name or toss food down, but overall they each mind thier own buisness. :)
