hello - a while ago i posted a thread about finding a pile of poop on the floor right next to the cats litter box regularly and that the responsible kitty would even bring out the cat litter product to cover it... now last night i found the guilty one in the act :-) he had just started and when he saw me he ran and hid i did the usual no no bad boy not here there routine and hoped he would not poo on the floor when i have my back turned and guess what ? 1 trip to the kitchen to return with special mop and bleach and there was a fresh pile :-( i mean he knew he was doing something wrong. he ran away and hid when he saw me come back so why is he doing it ???? could it be he does not want to share the box ? but he is peeing in it though ! could it be a territorial behavior ? or perhaps because i changed the litter cleaning routine to 1 time a day instead of 2 or 3 times because it was too tiring - what should i do ? go back to the old routine ? add another litter box ? please give me your thoughts on this :-(
If you have more than one cat, I would try adding another box. Have there been any changes in the litter...texture, smell, ect? Is the box near its food? I would also make sure the spot where he goes is throuroughly cleaned. I have had a good experience with Nature's Miracle.
I have 4 so another box is added now - i use saw dust from a furniture factory because you cannot find any of the pet care products here in nigeria you are lucky to find canned food and dry food but now with the ban on many many imported products i don't even know if that would be available as well - vet care is quite nonexisting for pets - the spot is cleaned with bleach and soap ... the smell well sure it did you know it smells a bit when i change it 1 time a day only like i was doing recently instead of 2 times...
Have they always used saw dust? Or has it changed? I know my cat is very particular about litter. If I buy something different he wont use it. Other than that, I don't know how else to help. I can imagine having cats in that situation...guess I'm dependent on my good smelling clumping litter. Good luck with the food situation too.
My mom had a cat that did the same thing. She had her own litter box and was kept away from the others because of a dominance thing. This cat would not use the litter box if it was not cleaned right away. Picky picky. It is just a behaviour thing i would think.
