LOL, I was reading on another Pom breeders site that she only bred her females twice a year but she bred them at the same time so that if there was a problem with the mom or the pups, she had a nursing mom there already. Does anyone else here do that?
Do you mean she breeds each of them twice a year? That would be basically every time they come in season. If somebody is breeding their bitch every season, it is not good. They will wear her out. She has no recovery time between pregnancy, whelping and raising pups. A bitch should never be bred more than every other season (1 each year or longer if her heat cycle is longer than 6 months). ltlgto
i don't breed so no i don't do that. only being bred twice a year? that means the females are bred at every heat cycle which is not good for the moms. the theory of having a surrogate mom i guess is a good one but there is no guarantee the surrogate mom is going to accept the pups that aren't hers.
