Why do people use electric shock collars on dogs? That's like shocking a child to teach them how to read. These devices are not exceptable, I know top handlers who wouldn't dream of using them. I have asked trainers and top handlers about them, and they agree with me, shock collars are mean! They are crule, and nobody that is a dog expert would use them, or even dream about it. Texas is the top place for dog training, and nobody I have talked to here would use them. Teaching a dog freestyle or agility with a shock collar is crule. It is something that should never be used and will harm the dog. They make dogs scared, and no longer trusting of you, and you can't work with a scared dog. If you even consider these kind of devices you shouldn't even have a dog.
I aggree. but what about those radio fence things? i hear that they give out a high frequency sound or something but i don't know much about them. My curiosity is sparked because I have a "houdini" german shepard thatb I have been trying to find a way to contain but still let her have free reign of the garden.
They are very cruel. I don't like the radio fence things either. If it is sound, thats fine, but if it's shock, that's cruel. I say you should get a fence. The radio fennces always shock, I have never heard of a sound one.
I have an invisible fence and the collar that goes around my dogs neck. I've had it for 2 years,Tigger was only shocked once by it. It's not cruel. The reason being ,once the dog knows it's boundries it will not go out of the boundries, there fore the dog will not get shocked. It only takes once or twice. She even goes out with out her collar ,and wont go near the end of the boundries.
I have seen way too many pets by electric collars, I really don't like them. There is a better alternative. It is a bark collar, but only sprays citronella when the pet barks. It sprays outward, not into the pets face. They not only like the odor but hate the spray sound it makes. I find it very effective. They can be purchased at almost any large Pet Company or through pet suppliers: Pet Edge, or Doctors Foster and Smith. You can also get remote control ones to teach your pet about yard boundaries.
ok, i was still half a sleep i guess when i came in. i don't like electric collars, have seen many burned necks in our clinic. love the spray collar. the dogs don't like the odor from citrenella at all, and the spray sound it makes. ok, i think i cleared that up now, it 9am. have a good day.
In my opinion shock collars can make dogs aggressive. Believe it or not there are right ways to use the collar. I have never used one and don't plan on it. There are other ways to correct problems that you are having with your dog and that's positive reinforcement and training.
Well I have read the posts and respect each ones post but I have to say this collars that are used have names for them such as . training collars, barking collars etc. I think there needs to be more education on these kinda collars because they do not make all dogs aggresive , mean. not listen, etc. I know alot of well known trainers that use training collars and I think they work great as long as they are not being used in a abusive way. But to say people who use these different collars should not have dogs well that is like saying if we don't buy expensive dog food we shouldn't have dogs.. My ALL my dogs are well minded and I love all four of my dogs they are a big part of my family they are my other four children. They are not mean or aggresive in anyways.. So NOT ALL DOGS TURN OUT THAT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Electric shocking is not cruel, huh? Well for one, nobody would like it if they were shocked because they didn't do something right. I think its really cruel. You take a dog to obedience classes, not shock them with an electric collar. This isn't justified. A dog is like a child, and it would be very sad to hear if anyone shocks their children.
