I need to find a dog behavorist for my 3 year old Basenji mix. He is the smallest of our many dogs and he insists on being the alpha. Not a problem with the other dogs it seems but he also wants to rule the world of the other people in the house. Just recently he nipped at my mom and dad on two seperate occasions. If anyone has ever seen a behavorist they felt comfortable with I would really appreciate the name and number (Northern Virginia please!). I have always felt that smaller dogs have what I call Napolean Syndrome where they have to be the boss, it has been a joke until now. I cannot worry abot him biting anyone outside of my family, but I am also not really ready to stick him on some sort of medication either.
Is there medication for this? I really did not know. If he were bigger I would suggest the correction collar. (getting a zap) but he is small from what i understand. How about keeping him on a leash with a choke collar and make corrections right away. If you could dedicate a few days of consistency then I would not be surprised that this behaviour gets "nipped in the butt" lol
