i have a cocker who is 7 months and has a little seperation anxity. when i leave my apartment he will start to bark and claw at the door. when we tryed to crate him he would claw at the metal door and the bottom of the crate. any suggerstions thank you garrett
the general rules for treating seperation anxiety include.... not making a fuss when you are leaving the house. basically ignoring the dog, don't give him lots of hugs or kisses before you leave. also give him something to occupy his time for the first ten minutes after you leave. one good thing is getting a kong, filling it with peanut butter and putting it in the freezer the night before. then when you are leaving you can put the dog in his crate. or wherever and give him the kong. it will take him awhile to get all that peanut butter out and hopefully get him over the anxiety phase. they say the first ten minutes of you leaving is when the most anxiety and destruction happens.
