"One more thing. We already had to have her expressed. Is that unusual for a puppy and do min pins need that often?? Thanks!!" This was a post from the minpin owner, I own a minpin 12 yrs now... and never heard of this befor? what is expressed?
Yes, it is a problem with the anal glands. The vet said she was full and they have to clean them out and then they spray them back there to make it smell better. She was trying to bite her backside a lot and scooting so my vet checked the anal glands. My sister has a border collie who has to be expressed about once every four months. She said she starts scooting and licking her butt and sometimes has an odor about her when she has this problem. We took our Georgie to the vet because she was lethargic instead of her lively self and she would hardly open one eye. She had an abrasion on her right eye probably from running into something. We are putting drops in her eyes and she is already much better. That is when we had the vet check the anal glands because of the other symptoms and he said she was full of it. She acted like she felt a lot better after this was done. She was back to her lively self.
