While waiting for class to begin, we played and meeted all the puppies outside. Kiba is the smallest (and the youngest). She's still somewhat shy towards the dogs cuz she's basically only seen two. There was a little Bernese Mountain Dog, Weirmariner (sp), and Vizla that tried to play with her, it was cute. The Weirmarine and the Vizla was somewhat her size, but it was cute when the Bernese MD pawed at Kiba and Kiba stuck her butt in the air to start playing, but then got scared cuz all three started sniffing/playing with her at once. There was also a big Lab mix, two Bichon X Cocker Spaniel (brother and sister), a Miniature Pinscher, a Lab X Husky, and German Shepard X Lab. I don't know what the age limit for the class is, I wonder if it was really just for basic manners, because the Lab mix looked almost full grown, as did the Cocker-Bees, the MinPin was "22 months" and the GSD X Lab was 9 months. So now for this week we work on SIT (even though she knows how, we're going to do it the trainer way), how to control your puppy from JUMPING UP, and making EYE CONTACT. I can't wait until next week's class!
great fun...We have only 2 class sessions left in our training...our dogs are doing among the top of the class...But schnauzers seem to catch on good thank GOD. I have seen people drag the pups around the area...it is funny to watch. One lady brought a 12 year old cain terrier who has crippled up back legs...and that dog isnt learning either...it wants to lay down some where...but she comes. To each his own I guess. I love the things we have learned with ours...heeling, about turn, sit and stay ...come on recall...so much more...it is a great evening out...we all enjoy it...Funny thing is we have to drive about 45 minutes to get to class...and we live hectic lives like everyone seems to this day and age...so we never have any time to spare ...and 2 times our dogs pooped on the mats...I hope we can allow them a few minutes to elininate before the last 2 classes...I hate being in a rush...but that is the way it goes...in the rural area we live nothing is close...so everything is a long drive...and we dont have petsmart close. Good luck to you...and enjoy the bonding
huron- i went thru a set of classes with snowball adn am in the middel of a set with snoopy. every singel class one dog or another goes potty in class. either #1 or #2. i think its too many smells and too much excitement. so dont feel bad! it happens to everyone! glad you are all doing better in class than ny snoop...*sigh* he's a handful...
The only time Mercy (other dog) ever had an accident in class was when she ate that pink insulation before going. Not a good thing. FYI keep dogs away from things that are pink. Merixo: you and your pup will make a lot of doggy friends. Great way to socialize. Keep up the good work!
I went to Petsmart classes. The trainer was good and very experienced, but in my particular class, the class was way too big for the individual attention I would have liked. But I saw a class at another Petsmart with only 4 or 5 people in it, THAT would have been better. I would be willing to go there for continued training, but I will make sure the class is a smaller size before I sign up. I actually saw the trainer up there recently (long after my classes were over) and she gave me tips on walking nicely on a leash.
