Hi Eskie Girl, My old cocker spaniel Bailey used to have a blocked tear duct. Unfortunately a side effect of over breeding I think. I didn't realize this until I had taken him home and had fallen in love by then, so I wasn't going to return him. He had it for all of his life, and I just had to keep his eyes as dry (wiping with tissue) as possible. Brought him to the vet but they said there was nothing they could do. Any operation would have been a big risk and I didn't want to put him through that. Good luck.
huron- he's settling in well. but he is 100% spaz. we are the dunce of puppy class! but he's slowly 'getting it' at home so i'm happy. it will be a long road i think, with him. that's ok, because we signed on for life! we've got plenty of time! and we are almost accident free, so i am even happier! especially with colder weather on it's way. i will try rubbing them- i have been cleaning his face 2x a day. he hates it. the vet said something about opening them, the problem is they keep reclosing and each time they have to open them more. i'd rather clean him than put him thru that.
My Bichon had a blocked tear duct. The vet flushed it out when she was spayed and we haven't really had much of a problem since. I also rub both ducts every day just to be on the safe side. When the vet flushed them he said the one was getting an infection in it so it was a good thing we did it. If they get totally blocked you would have to have them probed just like a human. It pretty much takes care of the problem....
