You know politics and religion should be two topics that should never be discussed among strangers. But seeing as I consider many off you good friends: I am catholic but not practicing. I attend church basicalll when i have to because i do not believe in the system. i can pray in bed and confess directly with the big guy my self and not gossip with a middle man and wait for his "punishment" God, yes i think there is a higher being. Heaven of course there is one with many puppies, hell no I think if you choose to be miserable your mapping out hell for yourself. well, with that being said, everyone is going to look and read the bible and unless you wrote it yourself you will never fully understand it. everyone can be on the same page and read 20 different things. it is how you yourself understands it. re-incarnation-yes i think so. does the catholic church think so? no so whatever, i think if you are a good person and you treat your pets well you will have the opportunity to see them again in heaven (where ever that may be)
I am Christian, so I don't agree with Digger. But lets not get into that. Anyway, I believe that God holds your animals for you and when you go to Heaven he will give them to ya. I believe they go to Heaven. Why wouldn't they? If something has a soul with it's own personality why wouldn't they? They are all different. That is a soul. God wouldn't make such a wonderful animal and give it 10 years of life and that's it. It says in the Bible that "No creature lives without knowing who created him".
>I am Christian, and I do not believe that animals have souls, nor do they go to heaven or other afterlife. If animals go to heaven, that means they have a soul. If animals had a soul, they would have a concience with the ability to choose between right and wrong, and would be subject to be judged just as humans in both this world and the afterlife. < But seijun, if you don't teach a child to choose between right and wrong, does this mean that they don't have a soul? Everything has to be taught to learn, incuding animals. But seijun, if you are Christian, you would remember that in the Bible it says that God gave us animals for food. But that doesn't mean they don't have a soul. Now many are for companionship too.
well if any of you follow john edwards he is always telling people that their dog/ cat whatever is with their loved ones in the afterlife. if animals do not go to heaven and meet up with us when we die, please don't tell me. for i would hope god would accept anything as innocent as an animal before he would accept some of us humans.
***applauding Scout*** That is exactly what I think, and btw I love john edwards. There are definately some terrible human beings around! Have a good day! gina i love john edwards also. since he is from new york, the radio station i listen to has him on quite frequently to answer questions from callers. he was just on there on friday morning. he really freaked a lady out with what he told her. she was in tears. he was dead on.
Chilli Pepper. I don't care how you raise a kid, it will still grow up able to desipher between right and wrong. Children are also capeable of choosing right from wrong. Dogs aren't. They don't have the same sense of right and wrong that humans do. And like I said before, if God gave animals souls, why would he then give us a right to take their life and soul from them? Why would he let us kill animals but not other people? ~Seij
I don't like to think of my dog NOT going to heaven but I must admit I have always been taught (when I went to a christian school and also at church) that they will not be in heaven. I hope they are wrong! :(
I too am a Christian. I believe they go to heaven. Maybe they don't have souls, (I'm not sure if I believe that) but this is why I think they go to heaven: If a child too young to decide his/her own faith and beliefs (or too young to accept Jesus into their heart as their savior) dies.........I know that God takes them to heaven. They were not able to make that choice and they are innocent. I believe animals are the same way. They have no knowledge or choices in this department. But they too are innocent. Animals have personalities, so why can't they have a soul? Aren't our personalities tied into our souls?
Digger: Your statements are interesting and unworthy of dismissal. My superviser is an atheist. He believes the theory of God is ridiculous and supportive of submissiveness. Several people I know are atheist and believe the entire spiritual realm to be a crock of bull designed to subjogate people. You should go to www.bettybowers.com. It is hilarious but at the same time challenges the belief in God. However, I believe in God. Of all the things in this world that are priceless are the belief in God. You lose nothing by believing. I would rather believe than not. Nothing to lose. However, I have issues with organized religion and man's selfish indoctrination of organized religion and the manipulation and intepretation of religion on people. I absolutely do not believe in missionaries etc. I do not believe in faith based initiatives. My relationship with God is personal and my business. I would like to give this to everyone else. Believe if you and what you want. I refuse to take pamphlets etc and have people pray for me. I attend church infrequently but I hate the begging for money and constant worshiping of the pastors. The protection of the ministers even for misdeeds which Christianity clearly does not support is criminal. I believe earth can be hell. Another interesting concept is Sylvia Browne's (psychic) theory: we have lived 1000 lives. I wonder how many believers of any religion can truly believe if they have not questioned and read about other thoughts. Religion indeed is philosophical thought. The interpretation of Christianity has been cruel and selfish. Too bad. In its strictest sense it closely resembles mythology and I can understand why some people do not believe in it. Many things in the Bible resemble the paranormal and are unexplainable. I can certainly understand your non belief. Science is based on fact, religion faith. Regarding animals: If there is a heaven and a hell, I believe GOD is loving and animals are in heaven. My issue with Christianity is you could be in heaven with the same person that killed you if they confess their sins etc. I also have issues with reward/punishment doctrine of Christianity and is there really an incentive to believe if murderers and rapists etc. can go to heaven due to their confession of sins etc. Excellent topic.
MLS- You have brought up some good points. I would like to respond to some of them: You said: "I wonder how many believers of any religion can truly believe if they have not questioned and read about other thoughts. Religion indeed is philosophical thought. " My thought on this is at least for me......I think alot about other people's beliefs. I even wonder sometimes what if there isn't a God? What if everything I have been raised to believe and have believed my whole life is wrong? How can God ALWAYS have been there, no beginning, no end? I question all kinds of things in my mind. THEN my faith kicks me in the butt! It is very hard to put into words what faith is. It is something you feel in your heart and soul. It is knowing, believing and trusting in something for no apparant wordly reason, no scientific backup or visible means. You mentioned about the Catholic priest getting away with child molestation. I agree with you on that. Preachers, Priests, Ministers, Reverends and any religious leader is still a human and therefore sinful. It is a horrible thing for our religious leaders to have let us down like this. But that is where my faith kicks in. I do not put all my eggs in one wordly basket with any one particular religion. Some one is always bound to screw up. You have to keep your eye on what is important...God. It is easy to point fingers and say that is why I am an atheist. It is alot harder to keep your faith when things like this happen but that is what "Faith" is all about.
