im only 15 and i have always wanted to work with animal eversince i can remember, i thought about beinga vet but desided not to as am not really a person who can cut things open. so i have desided to try my hardest to be a dog training expert i would love to be a dog whisperer or something like that next
I guess there is always a place for more dog trainers. Start doing stuff like that while you live w/ parents...save your money. I never did, life sucks only for that reason now. My dream job is being rich, and not having one. Be your own boss, whatever you do. Working for someone else is usually for their benefit and you get to keep the crumbs, while they get the pie.
I want to be a veterinarian. I have wanted to since I was 5. I know most kids are like "I want to be a pet doctor", but then they change their mind...But I WON'T. I will become a vet! I volunteered for my veterinarian's office once for about 2 months when I was 12. I watched a neuter and it didn't gross me out. I also witnessed 2 euthanizations. It was sad, but I didn't cry. I could do it. It's kind of nice seeing a hurt dog be put to sleep. You literally see the life leaving it's body through his eyes. I know it sounds mean, but you can almost *see* the doggie go to heaven. It's very nice. It is sad for the owners and I know I would have a fit if it was my dog, but you can...see....the dog go to heaven. His eyes become blank but you know he is still there. I love knowing he is still alive in heaven with no pain. You know what I mean?
I, too, wanted to be a vet. Once I found out that I may have to put someone's pet to sleep, I changed my mine. I went to school briefly for Criminal Justice, and I think I would pursue a career through those lines if I ever went back to school. Crime Scene Investigator, maybe. Or a Paramedic. Fin
you know you guys, you don't necessarily have to do surgery to be a vet. you could go into teaching, or a speciality practice such as dermatology or behavior. of course you will have to do a surgical rotation while in school but you can do lots of things with the degree besides working in an animal hopsital doing surgery. also in some specialities you wouldn't even have to do euthanasias. you could become an ultrasound vet and travel from 1 hosp. to the next doing ultrasounds on pets. they make loads of money.
Well, in the animal field I would love to be a professional handler. That job reaks of awesomeness (LOL, I've always wanted to say that). A vet tech or maybe even a vet would be nice as well. There's a college about 2 hours away that has vet majors. I am not the type that gets grossed out. Now, Fear Factor is a different kind of "gross." When was the last time you saw some dude on the street eating cow intestines in your face? I was riding my bike home from school & I saw a dead squirel in the road. So I took it home & made soup. OK, that was a gross joke. I didn't make soup, lol. I felt sorry for the poor thing. So innocent. Now, out of the animal field, that is a different story. I know this sounds gross, even kinda perverted, but I have always wanted to be a gynecologist. I think is very fascinating how the "female parts" work, lol. It's just something I'd like to do. I never understood male GYNs, though. I have talked to GBAt1Stop about my other option, bartending. Maybe at some hick bar, or fancy hotel or restaurant. I love mixing stuff up different ways, but with liquid, you don't have to worry about fire :D
I always wanted to be a Criminal Patholigist(sp). Working with the dead seemed like it would be easier than with the living.LOL Plus I think it would be interesting to find out how a person died be it homicide, suicide, or natural causes. I guess you could call me a little morbid, but someone has to do it. As soon as me and hubby gets our settlement I'll probably go back to school to get my degree in it.
I know this topic is more centered towards the younger people who have futures and visions of what they would like to do...I would like to share what my dream was! I have always had an affiliation for animals...I trained them, groomed them and tended to them when they were sick or hurt...as a young person...I proudly told everyone who would ask what I wanted to be when I "grew up" was a Vet...Right up until the college entrance...I was gearing to vet medicine...the councilors tried to dissuade me because of the tough cuts in the vets schools…and I had mediocre grades, They knew I would be cut or have a really hard time. So…I changed my major and the rest is history…I graduated (H.S.) in 1977…I have been working in Food Service Management and wholesale management for some 20 or more years. I have done every training class I could in my years since graduation…I have taken cooking classes, marketing and have 2 degrees under my belt…And now…I am coming back to my passion of animals…I would love to work in a vet office…But I have physical limitations now and I can no longer for fill that dream…I would like to still do some thing involving animals…and I am thinking about training…My point in all of this is…Follow your dream…don’t let any one dissuade you…and above all…Keep the grades up so you can be anything you set your mind to. Grades were the only thing stopping me…don’t let it be the thing to stop you…
Oh, yea, and when I was in 6th grade (reproduction unit. Fun eh? And they don't separate boys & girls anymore, so you have the cheerleaders & the football players giggling in hysterics in the back of the class. I don't mind it, but COME ON! I have no problem talking about it in class), a vet brought premature kittens to our school. They were found dead in the womb. It was quite chilling. Their eyes & ears were just delevoping. Poor things. And then they brought 4 dog testicles. No comment on that one.
Scout, you are right. YOu could be a vet in dermatology or behaviour. But I will be the veterinarian you does the SURGERIES, TAKES THE STAPLES OUT....Well I saw staples taken out and that was gross...But I can still do it. When my mom broke her leg and she had to have her stitches taken out from after the surgery I almost fainted. I get grossed out very easily from people surgery and dislocations, etc. But I just don't care when it is animals. edited to add: While I am studying in college I plan to be a dog groomer as a side job. You all get half off the price! If you decide to go to arizona to get your dog groomed...lol!
