I have 2 cats, one is 1.5 yrs (no problems) they other 5 months old, have for 1.5 months now, was bought littered trained and recently have been having incidents where he isnt using the litter box. It is solid waste so i dont think it is because he cant make it. And it is certainly waste and not vomit......What the heck could be going on? ALL CAT LOVERS..........THANKS.
If he was using it and now isn't, there could be a problem... Make sure that the litter box is not real full, this will cause some cats not to use it....also, I think this is a new kitty that you have just gotten? Maybe he is just completely use to it yet...or some cats will not use the same litter box...you may try 2 different ones... I don't know if this helps or not, but it is worth a try.
how many litter boxes do you have? should have one more litter box than you have cats, so you should have 3 litter boxes. is the litter box covered? some cats don't like that. i'd keep showing him the boxes over and over, keep him confined some and not having run of the house, scoop the boxes daily. maybe in one litter box have a different kind of litter and see if he likes that one better.
I can't say it better than Pearl did. We had the same problem a few years ago, and more boxes, more scooping, and newspaper in some , litter in others did the trick! Also, I tried to put the boxes in the spots where they were already trying to poop in the house. Good Luck! P.S. Sometimes we don't get responses right away here. Often it could be that the people on the board at the time do not know the answer to your question. But as more people log on, answers come :-) !
thanks everyone for your input, I was actually doing some research and yes i only had one litter box. i started with 2 but they only used one. and Yes actually it is covered. tommorrow i am going out to get another litter box and a different brand of litter and keep one litter box with one kind and one with the other kind. It's a starting point. I just had never seen a cat poop outside of its box, and its the second time this has happened. very weird, but maybe my new kitty, NEMO, just likes his cleaned Daily where my other cat, BUGA, the older one, i could go 2-3 days, but i cant do that now with multiple cats........ Oh get this one, I have a 9 week old Pomeranian coming in a week and half. This is my last pet, i actually had the Pom picked out first b4 my new kitty, but i rescued the NEMO so...............but last animal.......goodness i hope all this works out.......LOL. I am sure i will be on here alot guys with cat-dog questions. I will have to post my pics......i know ALLIE knows how to do that? Anyone tell me how to post my pics too? Thanks so much for the input, i cant believe i will have 3 furr babies, AM I CRAZY??? LOL
LOL You will be glad to have gotten in the habit of scooping everyday because when you get a dog, if he/she is anything like mine, your next question will be "How do I keep the dog out of the litterbox?!" Congratulations on your new additions. http://www.terrificpets.com/forum/8013.asp
Shiny..............no way!! LOL, yes how do i keep dog out of litter box and also how in the world do i keep everyone from eating everyones food. Wont the dog eat all of the cat food too? the cats like their food out all day, (as they should), but a dog you cant do that. Shiny.........do u have a cat and a dog? Oh no.................LOL!! Lots of question soon to come I can see it now...........hehehehehehe
Hahahaha! Yep. We call them kitty treats. The cat food we keep out all the time, but we keep it up on a table. As for the litter box, uggh, the only way I have found is to use baby gates to gate off the areas the litter boxes are in. They do make baby gates that actually swing open so that you don't have to climb all the time. Maybe others have a better method to share, especially since Poms are not so big, maybe you could just put small gates around the boxes. My dog is bigger, she would just knock over the gates if they are not secured in the doorway.
lol...you mentioned that you thought you were crazy to have 3 fur babies...lol..that is funny,.,,,.many of us have many more than just 3...as long as you enjoy and do right by the babies you have I think your blessed...
well jeez jeezy i have 3 dogs and 2 cats. it's working out just fine! what i do with my litter boxes, since my pug likes to feast in the litter box (loves those tootsie rolls), is in my spare bedroom upstairs in the closet i have 2 litter boxes. i have a screw-in cup holder hook thingy in the door jamb and have those plastic cable ties hooked together so the closet door will only open wide enough for the kitties to get in but not my fat pug. in this room i got an air filter/ionizer thing at walmart for $36 to help the room smell okay. in the basement i have a litter box in the laundry room up on a work table where cats can jump up but pug cannot.
Go get a bottle of No-Go by Pet Organics. It works on dogs...but is dyno on cats. You clean the soiled area, soap& water...then spray the no-go. Cats run from the smell, dogs just amble off confused looking. It smells citrusy to humans...I know how to mark my territory, too, I think it says to them.
thanks everyone!! i was thinking about putting the cats food up, but i cant think of anywhere, i have spent so much time training them not to GET UP ON COUNTERS AND TABLES, and i dont know where to put this table. No room in the kitchen, I want to out in the open , but cant think of anywhere that is suitable for everyone to place a huge table enough room for two cats to eat out of 4 bowls.................uuuggg. Any chance the dog will leave the cat food alone?? Someone humor me.............LOL Oh you wont believe this one either, my oldest cat starts throwing up last nite and has 6 times since then. He has never done that b4. So now i have a cat that poops on the floor and a cat that throws up and i have a dog coming.....................ggeeeezzzz! Well see my Nemo, youngest, brought a URI to Buga, (who already has Herpes) so Buga is on meds, an antibiotic. He was to take for 21 days, he has 2 days left, I am wondering if it isnt the meds making him sick at this point, maybe too much..............well a call the VET AGAIN on monday....i have twin boys and they require less........LOL, just rough patch, just unfortunately the Pomeranian is paid for and a flight scheduled. i hope all goes well...........crossing fingers!! Oh by the way, I am a stay at home mom, so the cats always have someone here, so no one is homesick or not getting enough attention, so the vomit and pooping cant be that anyway......... Thanks everyone..............you guys are so supportive!
