Our pet store says that they don't buy them from BackYardBreeders. I asked them. They also say that they do not get them from AZ because of the high byb rate or something. The puppies are equipped with a 2 year health guarantee which was posted on a notecard in the pet store near the puppies. They also are equipped with AKC/UKC/orACA registrations. There is also a vet on hand. My pet store seems great, but what do you think? I thought I might ask you guys.
chili it is hard to say. if i were a breeder i would want to know where each and everyone of my pups went. i would care about them as if they were my kids so i couldn't just hand them over to someone else to sell them to god knows who. i would hope that what we refer to as a responsible breeder would feel the same way. i would have to say just based on my feelings that the pet store lied to you. maybe they aren't coming from puppy mills per say, but i think they are still coming from people who care more about the money than the puppies.
I still wouldn't trust it. I can't see any breeder who cares about their pups, sticking them in cages in a store. If a puppy is traumatizedd at that age, it will stick with him. You don't know what kink of experience it is for a pup to be taken away from its mom and sibs and stuck in a cage in a store. If it's something really scary, it will affect the pups temprament. My mom got a dog from a pet store who seemed all until therre was a thunderstorm. The dog got diarrhea, chewed on stuff til he broke all his teeth, went nuts. Drugs didn't help. They eventually put him down cause he freaked out even when it was just raining and he had terrible separation anxiety all the time. Also, housetraining is more difficult for a pup raised in a cage that has learned to pee and poop through the grates rather than on grass. I would keep those things in mind when you make your decision.
>did you ever think that maybe this pet store may be breeding themselves ? < I don't think so because she said that they do not get them from arizona. She said that they acquire them from the eastern states (What do you know?!) like Michigan, Minnesota etc.
aren't michigan and minnesota big puppy mill states ? is that where that hunte guy is located ? i though those states were mid country. when i hear eastern i think of where i live, new jersey, new york etc. that area. i guess maybe mich and minn are east of arizona ? not a geography major here. lol

But the thing is, my pet store's puppies are happy, healthy LOOKING (Bright eyes, clean bodies, muscle tone etc) and are energetic, not depressed slobs like the other puppies that other pet stores retain. But then again, I don't know how the actual breeders are. Maybe they are mid country, I always thought of them as either North East or East. They are either in the North, South, East, or West part of the country. lol
i don't know then chili. there is a small time petstore by me that sells toy breeds. the woman put an article in the local paer one weekend talking about her store, what she is all about and stressing the fact that the puppies she sells are not from puppy mills. but at the end of the article she said she could order you any breed you want. a friend of mine bought a powder puff chinese crested pup from there and it is the healthiest, smartest, adorable little thing. not show quality cause it has 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye. so who knows.
It is in the mall, and it's name is "Animal Kingdom". They also have bunnies and birds. There is also a seperate building one called Gilbert Pets where my mom bought my cat. The sell pets and supplies but I have never talked to them.
In fact, most petstores do NOT get their dogs from puppymills... Not DIRECTLY, at least. They get them from puppy BROKERS- who DO buy them from mills. There's NO WAY A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER would allow a petstore to sell their animals to the first idiot to walk in with cash. YES- they are REALLY that bad. Don't spend your money in a store that supports such a disgusting industry. :(
