Ok, Kiba is not getting this housebreaking thing at all. I know that she is just a puppy, but I thought she'd be better by now. She will constantly pee on the rug and not let us know when she has to go. Today, after she woke up from sleeping on the couch, she peed on it. I need help and any suggestions you can give me. I have a crate, but lately we havent been using it because she will howl and cry in it. She is also peeing in it too.
How many weeks old is she? Maybe you need to section off the crate so it's very small inside. Second, no couch! I know it's tempting. You can let her up after she's pottytrained. I'd kind of keep her in a pee resistant area until she's a little bit older, like gaited in the kitchen for awhile. Also, seriously, put her in the crate and buy some earplugs. I have said this before and people think I'm joking but I'm not. You will fall asleep, not feel guilty and the dog will adjust in 2 or 3 nights.
i would suggest using the crate more often. there are also sprays and puppy training pads you can get. try giving a treat after she goes to the bathroom outside. and give her a firm no and maybe a squirt with a water bottle when she goes in the house. also take her out every hour. i don't know if any of this will help, but repitition is definetly the best thing
She has never peed on the couch before... she even sleeps with me in my bed. (Mostly because she howls and cries and whines all nite if you dont.) Do they make long gates? My kitchen "door"/opening if like 3-4 ft wide
i almost laughed when I saw "make it stop"...But...i do know it is a serious thing...believe me...My schnauzers are just about 5 months and almost 7 months now...The youngest...Minnie is my husbands favorite...he could not stand to hear her whine...and he gets her of r naps with him on the couch or the bed....She is spoiled...to say the least...She is not as predictable as Shamus...or as trust worthy. My husband would not listen to me about crate training....and now she whines because she is so cute in his eyes He just has to go get her. it has made the sittuation into a problem if you ask me. I have been telling him to be consistant with what I am doing but...needless to say he wont. AS for letting you know when they have to go out...I dont think that comes for some time...and then it might just be a walk towards the door...Dont get frustrated...I know the feeling I had 2 peeing on the floor...But I used crates...and if they were out I have them on leases so I can tell if they go off to sniff and are ready to pee. It will take time...and you and all family members MUST be consistant or your pup will be confused...Im still trying to tell my hubby that to this day...lol...But she will do well...just wait and see...as I remember she is about 3 months...that is a hard time for them...just make sure when they go outside they do their business...and then it is about every hour..and especially when play is involved...Your pup will learn it...have faith
Oooo...We confined Shadow to one room, the kitchen. It works really well. Make sure it's a hard floor area. (And your dog has his bed, toys, food, water, ect.) When you go out, or if that doesn't work use the crate. Thats what we did, housebreaking took us a week. ^_^
