To the "Is this the picture of a killer!?" folks, and there's more than one, I'm not picking on anyone.... Does this look like the face of a killer!? http://www.wolflink.net/~kiyote/whitman.jpg Or this? Ooh no! Look out! A killer! http://www.wolflink.net/~kiyote/dylan.jpg The first picture is of Charles Whitman, who killed 13 people by sniping from a Texas University bell tower in August of 1966. The second one is of Dylan Klebold, one of the "Trenchcoat Mafia" who also killed 13 people in Columbine. I'm just saying, a picture of a dog sleeping or lying against a family member is a far cry from proof positive any dog is safe. I'm sure even young Adolph Hitler laughed and rode Horsieback rides as a kid.
As the owner of 2 APBT,one sitting at my feet as I type this . This is not a dog problem,i've owned this breed for 20 years,it's a owner problem. This breed loves to please it's owner ,so if the owner wants a dangerous aggressive dog,the dogs pleasing nature will become that dangerous aggressive dog.By nature if bred properly these dogs are not aggressive towards humans, but are hard wired to be agressive towards other dogs, and have very strong prey drive towards small animals. Ultimately it's the owners responsibilty to keep your dog in check. I love my dogs ,I get very sick and tired of reading this pit bull bashing propaganda. By the way my man eating APBT was a very big hit at a flea market this past Saturday. The people there couldn't get enough of petting her, talking her,and giving her doggy goodies.I will continue on my quest to try to restore this breeds good name.To you pit bull bashing people ,watch The Little Rascals,or read about Christine Crawfords sar pits,or Wheela,or RCA. There's plenty more ,but i'm tired,so i'm off my soap box now.
True, but a picture is not all we have. It would be difficult and lengthy to convey the many years of moments like the ones pictured (together with the knowledge that there were not other moments not pictured when they were busy killing people like Hitler did.) I have found that a picture that is a good representation of my dog's personality saves me a thousand words. And the ones I have posted, snuggling with family and playing with kids, are an accurate representation of the everyday nature of my dog, not just an exception, or what she does when she isn't viciously mauling people. This is what her life is about, snuggling, playing, eating, and exercising, just like other dogs. I've explained and defended so many times that I have come to prefer the simplicity of a picture. But it isn't going to be as much fun if I have to explain everytime how the pictures are descriptive of my dog's overall character and how Missy doesn't have secret sneaky killing moments that I don't know about like some murdering humans do.
Shiny and Mandy: Wonderful pics! How cute! LOL! To each his/her own. If this person wants to believe the propoganda surrounding pits allow them to. More for you to love and one less pit in the hands of someone who doesn't understand, love and respect the breed. The last thing the world needs is more irresponsible owners getting dogs and knowing nothing about the care and responsibility of that particular breed. I for one have grown bored with the issue. If you don't like don't own. Like television. Why bother fussing about violence and sex on television. Turn it off. I do not like censorship or banning of any form. There are some who want to remove certain books from the library. I wish people would stop trying to police me! If it isn't good for me I will find out on my own. I need protection from other people and their opinions on what is right for ME! And as I have stated countess times: I am more afraid of the cruelty and lack of tolerance and acceptance of humans than I am of a dog bite. Pits don't scare me. People do.
"I need protection from other people and their opinions on what is right for ME!" So very well put' Those people, tend to think its ok to tell "YOU" how to Judge, feel or think.......But dont "YOU" turn around and judge their opinion' What a world!
Kiyote Your comparison of serial killers and DOGS is ludicrous! I personally am sick and tired of defending the breed I love so much. Especially to people who really are not concerned about the dogs when it comes down to it they are just out stir trouble. I have been rescuing fostering this breed for nearly 9 years and I have yet to come across a vicious one. Some of the dogs that I have taken in were in the worst situations imaginable. I can see where BorderColliebabe might have a fear of Pit Bulls afterall they are a favorite story among the media when there's nothing new to talk about and the media really knows how to make a story Great by using words such as Vicious and Killer. I could see where that would be scary to a 12 year old girl.
-yawn- I am like SO sick and tired of people useing stereotype, and blaming EVERY single type of dog attack on a bit bull! I mean, a border collie could attack a human and it would be blammed on a pit bull.
GinaH I really wanted to say that thru the time I have spent reading this forum and never responding I think you are a great person and what you do for the APBT breed is great as i also foster APBT and they are such a beautifull animal. Not many people or should I say uneducated people are willing to help this breed all because of myths and people like you and I and others who do the same for the APBT will help this breed stay around and hopefully enough people will come to there sences and realize that these dogs are wonderfull and stop the bashing them because they are bored. Long story short I love what you do for the APBT.
ShadowDog you have know idea how scared i am of these dogs i cant sleep because of these dog for weeks just a picture or the world scares me its not far i have bin scared my whole life maybe you should think of me once and what these dogs have put me though
Thank you very much Luvmypit you made my day! ------------------------------------------------------------ Quote "ShadowDog you have know idea how scared i am of these dogs i cant sleep because of these dog for weeks just a picture or the world scares me its not far i have bin scared my whole life maybe you should think of me once and what these dogs have put me though" -------------------------------------------------------------- Border Collie Babe Why are you so scared of Pit Bulls? And what do you mean by "what these dogs have put me through?" Why don't you tell us what bad experiences you have had with Pit Bulls? Besides anything you have read or heard in the media. Oh and all so i cant live where i want any more because i have all ways wanted to live in the USA but they have pits. Thanks a lot now i am upset.
There's one thing I won't argue about, and it's this.... "I have been rescuing fostering this breed for nearly 9 years " VERY commendable of you! If more dog owners were like you, we wouldn't even be having this discussion, I don't think. In hindsight, I wish I had done a rescue. I read about malamutes in need of a home and my heart breaks. I can see how people get very attached to certain breeds.
Well, guess what a BORDER COLLIE did to me? He was outside, he was my friend's dog, and we we walking to her horse pasture to see her horses. This dog runs up to me & bites me in the back of my knee, drawing blood. I still love Border Collies, but they are not my favorite herding breed. So stop stereotyping ABPTs. My grandpa had the most vicious ABPT alive. His name was Morris. He would run up to you, and with his mighty jaws.... Lick you to death! Maybe it would help if you saw another ABPT in person. ABPTs are therapy dogs, you know. ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
Border Collie Babe OK first off I certainly am not pushing you around I am only trying to understand your fear. How do you sort of get bitten by a dog? And if you really want to live in the United States (which I think is a sympathy plea) then why not check BSL and move to a state that has banned Pit bulls?
Breed Specific Legislation/Laws *Edited to add BSL are laws which ban breeds deemed as dangerous. In some states and cities any bully breed is considered a dangerous or at "risk" breed the funny thing is that Rottweilers are often included in breed bans. They are considered in some places equal to the Pit Bull although they are two totally different breeds. Dobies and German Shepards are also on the list of so called dangerous dogs and in many Cities they are banned right along with the APBT. Here's a brief description of BSL as well as a list of Cities and States that currently have BSL. http://www.pbrc.net/breedspecific.html
You cannot be serious? I have been full forced attacked by a German Shepard. It scared the crap out of me, I spent 4 months in the hospital, I was 7 years old. I was scared of GSD's but it took me no time at all to realize that ONE dog bit me, NOT an entire breed. To judge a entire breed based on one attack on you, is like saying that if a black guy robs you, that all black guys are scary and will rob you too, regardless of how nice they are. That is racism. Human or Dog, it is what it is. I wrote another post but I am certain you didn't read it, at my shelter more labs, shepards, Border Collies, and even the breed that I raise Pomeranians get put down more for aggression than Pit Bulls. We do put many pits down but it is mostly because people like you, who are scared and uneducated on the breed, say things that you have heard from the news about ONE dog but you associate it with one breed and so we get dumped off with everyone's, at one time, 'beloved pet'. Border Collies have more "problems" than do pit bulls, as far as their own personality and instincts are concerned. We do not adopt out border collies or aussies to anyone until they have heard and understand all of the "not so good" points of that breed. Instead of bashing pits, why don't you try to educate yourself and then, learn about other breeds. I know they said you were like 12 or 13 but I have a 2 and 4 year old who know better then to judge dogs or people by just ONE incident.
Katz: Why does the robber have to be black? Why can't it be in case you are raped or the victim of a serial killing by a white guy doesn't mean everytime you pass by a white guy in the grocery store with a beard he is thinking of making you his next canibal delicacy.
