I don't nessassarily think it's a bad thing to be on here during a pet emergency. Some people do not have people to go to. It just means they are comfortable with the people on this board and value their help. Plus, there are people to answer questions 24/7 on here it seems like, so you don't have to wait long for a response. If you have no one to call, this board is the next best thing I think. It also seems like she was just on here while she was waiting for help. Not on here instead of getting help. I dunno. I think in emergency situations, people panic and it's easy to say what you would do in that situation because you're not in it. I do it all the time when I'm watching some horror flick. I'm like, 'Oh geez! Why did they do that! They should of....' but maybe if I was in that situation I wouldn't because your mind is going a mile a minute when you're in a panic situation. My friend's chihuahua ran into the leg of a chair once and knocked itself out, and she panicked so much that she called me first. Because we're best friends. I had to tell her to call a vet. In a normal situation, that would be your first thought, but when you're panicking, you contact someone you trust first for some reason.
I agree, too. He's only l4, I think he handled it rather well, giving the peroxide probably saved Nala's life. He seemed unsure about calling someone to take him to the vet right away and needed someone to tell him it was ok to call his mom and get her out of work. Hope everything is ok.
I completely agree with huntersmom. Just because she was on the computer doesn't mean the phone was tied up or he wasn't doing anything. I have broadband and it doesn't tie up the phone. She had already done well with the peroxide, which I must admit I wouldn't have known to do, and then needed to ask advice. She was told to call poison control, the vet, and an adult to take her to the vet. She did all three. Being on here while on the phone and waiting is fine. It would have eased my mind too. Hectorluvr GREAT JOB. Anyway, just wanted to put in an explanation that maybe others hadn't thought of. This was definately not like the "other" post and I'm glad there were people here to help. I just hope everything is ok and that she can update us soon.
hopefully i am coming on here after you have already left for the vet. rat poison is an anti coagulant. it causes rats and mice to drink volumes of water and it causes the blood to not be able to clot. she could bleed out internally. she will need to take large amounts of vitamin k, amongst other things, which will make the blood clot. it is very serious when an animal gets into rat poison. it is not something that can just be watched and waited on. it is very good that you induced vomiting right away and were able to get her to throw up a good portion of the pellets. that alone may have saved her life. i hope all is well at the vets. please let us know how it went.
ok i am back from the vets office. The vet said that she will be ok, she gave her a vitamine K shot and some charchole (sp) something. The vet wwas very impressed that i called Poison Controll and her office.
