My shelties get dry kibble both in the morning and at night. Two or three times per week I mix in a can of Pedigree healthy start (for the two pups) and Pedigree lean for the older guys. They always think it is a treat. It is only on a rare occasion that they will get anything from the table. I will give them a taste of turkey on the holidays but I have tried to be consistent with the table feeding. I am pretty generous with dog treats though! Just be careful with your sheltie - it is easy for them to become overweight - especially once the puppy stage wears off.
Ace and Summer eat dry food only (Diamond brand puppy food). I don't have a specific schedule, the food is always there and they eat when they want to, which is about 3 times a day. I notice they eat alot at night. When I go to sleep the bowls are full and when we get up they're empty. Maybe my bf's roommates eat it....lol Anyways, I used to feed dry mixed with wet, but wet food is a waste of money (as it is mostly water anyways). It is also bad for their teeth and will give them horrible breath! **kris, abby, ace & summer
I feed Oscar little children. Just joking!!!!!!!! I had to say that. Actually I free feed. I put about 8 cups in his bowl in the morning and he eats on it two or three times a day. He never gets canned though. He eats Diamond Lamb and Rice. Kim Oscars pics http://www.dogster.com/?50558
