Ace and Summer were spayed/neutered today. Everything went okay but Summer has only come out of her crate once so far to go to the bathroom. She does not look very happy. Ace walks with his tail in between his legs. I feel so bad for doing this, even though it's for their own good. Summer won't come near me. Hopefully they'll be back to themselves soon =0) **kris, abby, ace & summer
Oh and I have a question. Ace has been eating a little and drinking some water, but Summer has not touched anything at all-no food, no water. I picked her up at 5:00pm and it's already 10:00pm. Should I force her to drink?
she'll be okay if she doesn't drink til tomorrow. sometimes the anesthesia makes them nauseous and they don't want to eat or drink. if she does, and then vomits, thats normal. just take everything ae=way til mornin.
she'll be fine. you should've seen scout when she was done. she acted like she couldn't walk on her own. she wanted me to carry her fat butt to the car. then she came home and jumped on the couch and didn't move at all all night long. i just covered her up with a blankey and let her sleep it off. the next morning she was a terror !!
They will be just fine....... Acefacey!! I just had a puppy have hernia surgery last week and the vet said not to give them to much to eat for 12 hrs. Some dogs have a bad reaction to the antistisia(sp?) ussually she said it happens when they are still at the vets . But to just watch them closely and yes MOST dogs are droggy after the surgery EXCEPT for my baby pug who was flying around and jumping threw the air like life was the greatest??? it freeked me out that he was gonna ingure himself. So be thankful that they are just sleeping to get them healed and they will be fine tomm. Jubilee
Thanks, you guys make me feel so much better, really! =0) You know, I feel so bad for them because they feel crappy, but it is kind of nice to have them sleeping for the night. It's like my first night off being dog-mom! And what do I choose to do on my night 'off'? I am sitting on the computer on T.P. and eating hamburger helper. ha. But no, I really do feel better. I just hope that Summer doesn't hold a grudge lol.
Aceyfacey, I am so glad to hear that they came out okay! So they are a little mad at you right now (shrug) but at least they are okay. I wonder if they feel depressed. I guess it affects their hormones? Just keep trying to make them feel better. Poor things.
acey- how are they doing now? did the vet send them home on pain meds or antibiotics or anything? and if you dont want to put the cones on, and they are messing with the sutures, get them baby onesies from walmart and that will keep them from messing with the stitches.
I was prepared for the way Acey and Summer were feeling when Bella was spayed...instead I got a super hyperactive puppy who had to go the vet because I though she was gonna rip her stitches from being too active. Hopefully today, now that the anestesia has worn off they will be more like normal.
Layla was a mess after her spay/hernia surgery. Wouldn't eat for 24 hours, was shaking all over. I felt so bad for her. Don't force feed, when they are ready, they'll eat. Ice chips or little squirts of water with a syringe are ok if they look dry. By tomorrow, your only problem will be to get them to slow down.
Eskie, No the only pain meds they were given were administered at the office before I picked them up. The vet said that he doesn't give pain medicine because pain a way of telling the dog's body to slow down, so they won't want to run around. And they haven't so far today. Summer finally came out of her crate sometime in the middle of the night and Ace slept in bed with me as usual. Summer ate a little and drank some water this morning, but she is back laying in her crate again. I remembered you telling me (or someone else) about the onsies before and I've got 3 pairs. They haven't messed with it that much though, so I haven't used them yet. Oh, and they were not stiched up, they used glue or something?
Could they not use the stictches that disolve? You know like the kind they used on me after I had a c-section and my kids still don't appreciate me. WOuld that not be better? less traumatic I would think. Lets ask Lalayla! shes a nurse.
I dont know Aisha, that is what I would've thought they'd use (dissolvable stiches) if not real stiches. I just hope the glue works...I mean, they probably use it on tons of dogs...but glue just doesn't sound right to me, either.
I would keep then in the crate for as long as you could during the day. I don't like the sound of that. The glue is for minor repairs and not serious surgery. Call the Vet and ask why they would use the glue.
At the office the vet said that they spay/neuter hundreds of dogs every month and they've always used glue. I really wish I would've known beforehand because I alwys could've looked around for a different place. So for the next 10 days I am not going to be able to let them play with each other or run around.
