I tend to agree about the bashing people take for wanting a dog of their choice that some consider designer mutts. My Molly has been referred to as a designer mutt and had I come here before getting her I am sure someone would have tried to talk me out of it (not that I knew what a puggle was but you get hte idea). I know that you guys know I got her at the pound and all but....had I set out to purchase her and you talked me out of it...what a bummer!! She is the greatest ever. (This next statement may cause un uproar but here goes).... I can't stop the world from breeding these dogs. I can't make the "breeder" do it right. I can attempt to teach others, like you do (no problems with that) and I can hope over the years those people realize right from wrong. But meanwhile I can provide one of those dogs who didn't ask to be put on this earth a good home. If you ignore these dogs because of the breeders then these are the one likely to end up in shelters in my opinion. When I first came on here I am sure you poeple were guessing I was a troll. I was so excited about getting Molly that I wanted to whole world to know about her and how good it felt to save her from death!! But I got a ration of crap and felt pushed to the point where I almost left....then one member flat out told me "to go and don't come back" more less. Talk about rude. I was speechless. Now everytime I see someone mention the word "Puggle" I flinch thinking a war is going to break out. Pretty sad really that I feel so defensive about it. Edit....sorry, long, got carried away...the thought of all this started to get to me again...deep breath!! ok...good now...smile! :0)
No one has actually offended me, personally, but I really don't like the name calling, even if it's referenced to someone else. If someone is rude, even if I agree with their opinion, it really turns me against them.
Huntersmom, yes I have Oscar. At this very moment he is trying to block the keyboard with his fat head. Its his walk time, but we can't go today because I'm sick. He is so sensitive, if he doesn't get his daily walk he will pout and bug me till I go to bed at night. I think its great you adopted. Thats what I plan on dong for my next Dane hopefully. I used to have a lab but he got aggressive when Kaitlyn was born. We tried to work out his issues for almost two years but he wouldn't change the way he felt towards the baby. He is now with a great woman that is widowed and he is the only dog. He also lives in Country Club. He is living in doggy paradise. I also love mastiffs, my sister has an English Mastiff that is the most laid back dog I have ever met. I was about to make her a dogster page. Kim Oscars pics http://www.dogster.com/?50558
MPPuggle. I'm glad you have a nice doggie. I'm kinda straight laced about thinking only recognised breeds should be bred. I guess not everyone likes to drive between the lines. There is an artistry to dog breeding. Like any art it is highly subject to criticism. Sometimes I guess certain kinds of breeding, or just maybe all kinds contribute to the disaster in the story. I am Sam. I pulled it up to the top a few min. ago. READ it if you haven't. I can't get it off my mind yet. I had some guy come up to me in the restuarant the other week. He said hey, you like dogs...I'm giving this one away. He had a wife, and 2 kids...the old story, get a pup when it's little and cute, discard it when it's 6mo. old and we are already tired of it, and the kids summer is over and we are going back to school. I try to avoid people like this when I sell pups. Most people who call and say they want a puppy for a child, are lucky I don't hang up on them then and there. Test scenario: tell them you will give them the dog when it gets bigger, say 12 weeks, if they say oh no, we want it when it's little and cute, you may have a problem...
Not all of us. Many of us tried to help NJchmin. I don't agree one bit with how she handled the situation, or frankly, her way of going about pet ownership in general, I won't, and I don't have to. But I didn't call her names.
harleygirl-I think that was a little bit different. That was deliberate cruelty to animals, and should not be tolerated by anyone. Having different opinions is one thing-neglecting an animal's health is another altogether.
Harelygirl.....that is unfair to say we are ALL guilty of bashing. I may have stated an opinion but I can't think of a time I bashed anyone. I sure hope I didn't. KittysMom...I agree with you. I dont question what you guys stand for. I understand what the issues are, but my point is...it is happening and these dogs didn't ask for it and they need a home. I know purchasing them only encourages that breeder but sheesh I just can't stop thinking about that poor dog being ignored just because of a stupid person. I just don't think I should have been made to feel I needed to leave because my opinion is different. I sure never set out to start and arguement or anything. I have not read that story "I am Sam" yet but I will. I will do it now. :0) Edit...story touching and made me get teary eyed but not sure it had anything to do with people bashing others over designer mutts.
Did you people know,...that in most major inner'cities they allow homeless people to keep stray dogs? They have no home for themselfs but yet animal control will hunt for these people and hand out free food for their pet's. Give free spay and neuter's to homeless people for their pets. Do you think these dogs vitsit a vet? I would think they die also if something bad happens to them. Take your crusade to the streets if you feel so strongly! What makes you think by giving your opinion's its not an insult to others' This was my crime when I posted my opinion but its not your's? Do tell? I use the word all as to not single anyone out!
I posted a topic last week about taking Kiba to puppy classes. I did not appreciate that someone told me that I was inconsiderate of my pup and that she'd get parvo. Someone telling me what I have to do with my dog and that no other way gets me very angry... "You won't like me when I'm angry" ..... ITS THE HULKETTE!!! AHH!!!

Maybe you misunderstood. If you feel that NJ's way of dog ownership is okay, far be it from me to criticize you for voicing your opinion. I don't agree with your opinion on that one, and, hey , that's okay too. All I am saying is that many of us who feel the way that I do STILL did not name-call or say anything to belittle the person, just tried to help in a very serious situation. Basically that not agreeing did not cause lots of us to be cruel or mean or guilty of bashing.
Live and let live. I really don't care what anyone else says about me or anyone else. If you don't like what I have to say. Thanks for letting me know. I will definitely NOT take that unto consideration. Do what you want as far as I am concerned. However, I do think the passive aggressive attacks are just as "negative" as the direct ones. In any event, if I wanted to go back to high school I would have went to my reunion last year. Life goes on. Thank GOD! Terrificpets.com Rocks! Terrificpets.com Rules! Edited to say: The last statements are because I am trying to get on the Delete Squad's good side. I lied Min I swear I lied. I care I really do care! LOL!
Merico: I was not trying to offend you. I'm sorry you took it that way. I have seen dogs die of parvo and would never have done what you did. Maybe they have less virus where you live? I had a visit from some (I think) coronavirus a few mo. ago. People visited the house, and I had dogs puking w/ bloody diareah for a week. This same virus swept through my girlfriend's kennel...She has 60 dogs on premises. It killed her beautiful white stud dog. Honest,I thought I was doing you a favor. I hate being told what to do too. I often avoid trouble when somebody gives me a "heads up"and that is more what I intended in your case. If I came off rough sounding, it was just I was so shocked at what you were doing.
Harley: I am ALWAYS on your side. Mainly because I think I may want a Harley motorcycle. Your screen name rocks! Mine obviously tells what is important and significant in my life. Not a dog, my hubby, my parenthood, my name Noooo... not me.. my college degree! I am so plastic! LOL!
