When I was in high school one of the girls I hung out with had one. It was the cutest thing, you could barely see it's face because it's hair was so poofy and soft. I only remember two things about it, though. One was that if you put it on the floor it'd run under the bed/dresser, etc. and we had to move furniture and chase it around to catch it. Second, they take dust baths. Everyday she'd take out a box filled with this weird dust and her chinchilla would roll around in it. It was also very nice, I dont know if they're known to be biters or anything, but my friend's never bit anyone who was holding it. Are you thinking about getting one? **kris, abby, ace & summer
My husband and I got one right after we got married. I loved him. The only think I didn't like and the only reason I will never have another one is because if we held it to much its hair would fall out. Ours was bald a lot because we held it all the time. Maybe I'm silly but I'll never have another one because of the fact that we shouldn't have held it so much. I know that if we ever did get another one the same thing would happen.
LOL! That's funny... Oh... never mind then.. I didn't read that....of course they never tell you that... Thank you everyone for your input. Back to cats. I love dogs but I don't want the dog to vegetate in an apartment for 9 hours a day...not fair.
mls2004, have you ever looked into ferrets? I've never had one, but hear they're really entertaining. We did have an Iguana while we lived in our apartment. They wouldn't let us have cats or dogs. He was cool. After we got ours, I would walk him around the parking areas to sun himself, five other people in the complex got one. ltlgto
I have owned Guinea Pigs, they are very cute and will keep the cat amused for hours. They make such strange squealing sounds. They seem very intelligent little beings. I bet some where, someone, has trained them to do tricks.
I LOVE ferrets and chinchillas! The only rodent I've ever had, and the ebst pet I ever have had was Tako....:=o( But the story is sad. Let's jsut put it this way: I bonded with him VERY close. Then one day, he was suffering. I knew it, and he had a seizer and died in my arms. He was my first true ept that ment soemthing to me...and I wouldn't ahveShadow unless he died. I love him so much.....
i have never owned one, but actually wanted to a while back. i don't know much about them, but i do know that they're adorable and make good pets. a friend of mine has 2 of them, and in the past she has had ferrets. she said the chinchillas are pretty similar to the ferrets, meaning i guess sort of similar to a cat? she used to let them run around the house all day, adn they would only be in a cage when seh wasn't home, and when she was sleeping!
Well as a kid my grandmother raised them. When I got older I got one. I loved him he was full of personality and loved to sit on my shoulder and watch tv. One night after my little ones had a bath they let the water out and left the wash cloth in the tub. Mo new how to open his pen and he got out and jumped in the tub and drowned. I cried for a week. So my mom and Husband each bought me one on my b-day. They were not mo's by any means. They were very timid. So they all come with different personalitys. But they can't be around water accept drinking bottle (they can't swim and will drown in a small amout) . Also water ruins there fur. They have to have a special box with special dust to roll around in dailey to bath. If you do not give them there bathing box to use dailey there fur becomes very gross. They eat pellets and love dried fruit. You can even give them sugar cookies for a treat every once in a while. There food is expensive! They like to be clean so you must clean cage twice a week because they do throw shavings and poo around. Also they will release there own fur when being held if they are scared or nervous. They are smart and almost always figure out how to open there cage so a lock is important. I used to let mo out because he would always come to me. The others you could not catch if they got out it was hours. I finally gave them to a breeder for breeding because no matter how hard I tried they just were not people friendly. They also get scared easily and can have an instant heart attack even from a vacuum. Last but not least they usually live up to 15 years so it is a life long pet.
I have two ferrets but don't really care for them. They are really my boyfriends. They are VERY entertaining, but usually it is because they chase me around the house attacking my feet. The love socks and love feet. They also love our cats.
Our chinchilla fell in the bath tonight and contrary to everything i have read will qualify for the next british olympic swimming team. Macie has got loads of personality and spends a lot of time running around the house. Although be aware that she has cost me money buying a new computer key board and mouse that she thought looked tasty. Great pet to have, this is our second. They all differ so much as the other one was not as friendly. I don;t know if its the sex but the female is a better pet.Better to get them as young as you can
