I had a very simular situation not long ago, I have always rode horses all my life, but the last year I got a medical condition where I could no longer ride. I had had my horse John for almost 8 years and was madly in love with him, as close as some people are to their dogs. He was a show horse with a lot of talent and a super pedigree and I had people bugging me to sell him for years. But he was my best buddy and I would never have though of selling him. But two months ago I realized that it had been over a year since I had ridden him, and all his talent was going to waste. I ended up selling him although it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I will always miss him terribly, like I am sure you miss your dog, but I understand that sometimes you have to do what is right for both your animals and your family.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that huntersmom, for you, your family and your dog. I completely understand the choice you made. I may not have made the same choice as may others on this forum but you made the right decision for you and that's what matters.
