I went to the SPCA today, for the 1st time in a few weeks. They actually had a few purebred dogs, in addition to the usual, loveable mutts. There was a choc lab that was 8 yrs old. I asked my husband to go look at her (she's already housebroken and everything) But he said he doesn't want to adopt a dog, especially a lab, that old because of all the potential health problems. There was also a 7 yr old German Shorthair Pointer. Any thoughts on how to convince him? Keep in mind, he wants a puppy because of all the cats, so there's that in addition to the health issues.
Does your SPCA have a website they keep updated daily? We wanted a puppy as well to make sure it was socialized with children and cats properly. I scanned our HS website twice daily and found Bella who was only 3 months old. Another thing to try is http://www.petfinder.org go to the advanced search part on the right, then put in your zip code, animal type, and age desired. You are likely to find some in your area that way. Don't forget to remind your hubby all of the woes of new puppyhood and warn him to be prepared for lots of sleepless nights pottytraining and chewed on everything.
