When I leave my 3/12 mth old toy poo at home in the bathroom he tears up the pee pee pad I put down for him. He will pee on it then tear it up like its a toy and pee on the floor or on top of the torn up pad. Let me further explain: I work Weds - Sat from 6:30am-5:30pm. I take him out before I leave and my boyfriend will take him out at least once during the day when he can. I leave him with water and 2 toys. I just wish he would not tear up the pad!! I tried to tape it to the floor but that did not work. I dont leave him in the crate because I think we are not there enough. Another question: How long should he be left in the crate and will he ever be able to be left 10 hrs? at what age? Thanks
Where do you keep the pup at night? How long do you use the crate at a time? Does the pup keep the crate dry when using it for long periods of time? I would keep the puppy in the crate when ever you're not at home...If your boyfriend can't let the pup out during the day, can you find someone else to let him out? Crate training is the best way to go..IMO...I have heard that the pads do get torn up by quite a few dogs....I know my Bichon who is almost 10 months can hold it all night, sometimes for 10 hrs. but she also held it all night at 3 months old....sorry I can't help more.
He is in the crate at night for about 8 hrs. He has never went in his crate and will cry when he needs to go out and i have let him cry for maybe 15 mins or so and he has always held it. Unfortunately there is no one else to let him out in the day. Its just me and my boyfriend and he is not guaranteed to make it home sometimes.
It's not a good idea to leave a dog in a crate for more then two hours. What I would suggest is to leave him in a small room like the kitchen or bathroom with his pads, a bed, some food & water, and toys. Put up a secure baby gate to ensure his safety. Most likely he's tearing them up from stress or boredom.
I had the same problem with my two Yorkies tearing up the pee-pads. They do great on newspaper, but put a pee-pad down and you would think it was a pigs ear the way they chew it up! I would just try using newspaper instead.
