It's a really sick joke, but I didn't believe it. The cat wouldn't live a day. Think about it, your lungs cant expand, your muscles don't move so your blood would clot, your bowels wouldn't move being crunched up. It's totally incompatible with life, couldn't happen.
I should have thought about checking snopes.com. I haven't been there in a while. I'm glad you checked it out. I noticed there was no way to order, but what really threw me off was that there was a phone number. Sicko's. MLS is right. The worst part is that somebody will probably try it, and I got the info in an email from my 11 year old. You know one of those petitions to stop this. So thank you, at least I could go in there and tell him it wasn't true. Makes me want to scream.
"US scientists have found evidence that cats really do drive people mad. Researchers from Baltimore's Johns Hopkins University say their findings show keeping a furry pet can lead to schizophrenia, manic depression and even permanent brain damage. Dr Robert Yolken and his colleague, Dr Fuller Torrey, who have conducted years of tests, believe a parasite found in cat faeces called toxoplasma gondii infects the human brain. Worryingly, pregnant women who contract the parasite, can transmit it to the foetus, with devastating effects on brain development." When did this happen? I thought that having pets made people significatly happier. I think that we all need to report them.
frosty - that is a legitimate problem. it is called toxoplasmosis. the cats generally pick it up in the outside dirt. the cats themselves can become sick with it, or they can be just carriers of it. they transmit it to people thru their feces, while cleaning the litterbox. in most healthy adults, if they contract it, it usually presents itself as a cold and goes away but they still carry it in their system. as far as pregnant woman go, all md's tell woman that they shouldn't clean litterboxes while they are pregnant in case their cat has it. the cats can be ested for it by a simple blood test. more than likely though if the cat has it the woman already has it too. since i work with animals they tested me when i becames pregnant. i tested positive for it. the md told me that since i already have it, it is not a problem for me or my child. it is when a woman contracts it for the first time while she is pregnant that its a problem.
