My wonderful husband barbequed for dinner. He then left the bucket of ashes in the back yard. I didn't realize it until a few minutes ago but apparently Rusty ate A LOT of it. He has thrown up twice. Otherwise he seems ok. But he is literally thowing up charcoal ashes. Of course it landed on the only rug he could get to and it is stained black. Should I give him something? I don't know how much he ate, but he has thrown up a lot.
Eek I have no clue. Don't they give some form of charcoal to make dogs throw up? Probably not the same..but maybe similar? Hopefully he just needs to get it out of his body. Hope hes feeling better soon!
I will thanks. Here's his dogster page: Have a good day! Rusty the Golden Retriever http://www.dogster.com/?68489 Bailey the Pug http://www.dogster.com/?68491 Ariel the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?68494 Lady the Greyhound http://www.dogster.com/?78537
I don't think it will hurt him. I was worried he was a smaller dog, I think size has alot to do with his. Since he's big he'll probably be more likely to flush out the ashes. Yes, lots of water for him! and maybe some dry food... I don't know. Again, my dreams are with you!! sarah
I havent found anything else really...just ashes of any kind can cause stomach irritation. It's hard to sort through because activated charcoal is what they use to help dogs get toxins out. What about calling your local fire department, not 911, but the regular number. If you can't get in touch with a vet, maybe they have some kind of experience with dogs that have ingested ash.
Well, it says ashes/charcoal causes significant stomach upset. Well....it doesn't tell me what to do, if anything. Maybe he will just keep throwing up until it's out of his system. I will keep looking.
Small town, no all night vet. I did find a vet's web site that says if a dog is vomitting due to getting into the garbage or other intestinal irritations, they just give the dog a bland diet for a couple of days unless something else comes up. He's still drinking and not dehydrated or anything. He seems ok now, I think I will watch him. As long as he doesn't get dehydrated or start having other symptoms I think he will be ok. My vet has an answering service that will page him, but I really hate to do that if it's not that serious. I think I will watch him tonight and if he's still getting sick call then or in the morning. If he's stopped tomorrow I think I'll just keep an eye on him. What do y'all think? If you think that's not enough please tell me. I will use the link Pearl put up even if I have to pay for it if y'all think that would be better.
Do you think he's thrown up all of it? I know charcoal is ok to take orally, I don't see how the ashes are any different, but I don't know for sure. This has really been a week of dogs eating things, hasn't it.
