Kiba just LOOOVES her greenies. I tried the petite ones because that was her "size". She finishs that in about 3 hours. I tried the regular ones, that last about a day. Should I try the large and jumbo ones? Just because it will take her longer to eat it? Thanks! Also, has anyone ever given the Edible Nylabones to their dogs?
Well I've tried 2 variations of Nylabone and 2 Booda bone...both she finished off in about 3 days. I got the ones "for larger dogs" as she seems to take to big things better. I don't know if its bad for her to have that much, but the rawhide just scared me. Yesterday I bought her a huge sterilized beef bone and shes chewing on it, but not tearing it up yet.
mine go thru the regular size greenies in about 20 minutes. but, they only get 1 a week, maybe 2. the petite, i swear, was gone in about 4 seconds flat. they like some of the nylabone flavors, bacon, and bbq chicken, and the booda bones with dimples used to be a big hit, now i cant get them to look at them. i buy the giant size in everything, because i thrown it out when it gets too small, and the small sizes start out so small it seems a waste of money. i have found that anything they like, i buy a giant pack of, and they immediately stop liking it. "mom just spent $40 on boods bones!!! let's hate booda bones from now on!!!" they get basted rawhide while i watch them, and when i am not, either kongs, or those hollow sterilized bones- you can fill both with all kinds of stuff and freeze them and they last a long while. great for in the crate!
I use the greenies only when leaving for a few hours. That is the treat I give Chloe' when we are going to leave her home for a while...she loves them. She goes crazy when she see me reaching for the cupboard where I keep them...I swear she loves in now when I leave. I also give her the Booda Gnarlys bones. She loves the Santa Fe Chicken and The baby back ribs...they come in a double pack...it will take her a few days to get through on of those...I've also use the bones by Pedigree Dentabones..I give her the medium one and it will last a longer time...the small ones she goes through in a day or so...So I would think your Schnauzer would be able to use them too....I get all of my bones at Wal-Mart which is the cheapest place I've found around my house....I don't give the rawhide as it makes Chloe' cough more....
i can't give those things to my dogs. mainly because they finish them up in about 10 minutes and they are too expensive to give on a daily basis. maybe once every couple og months i will buy the greenies for them. what i do buy are the meaty soup bones for them. they are big and take a long time to get all the meat and marrow out of them. they chew on them afterwards for days.
Sometimes I freeze the Greenies and they last longer. Its also nice on hot days for them. Packing a kong with peanut butter and treats and putting that in the freezer is good too. What I found last a really long time but can be kind of fattening is Marrow bones, and they do smell a little but if your gone you wont be there to smell it. My girls will eat those all day long. The one thing I always give them everyday is the compressed rawhide bones, they are a lot safer then normal rawhide and are not made with the same ingrediants, they also break into better pieces that they wont choke on and they will last a long time, they come in flavors as well.
Toby will eat a petite greenie in about an hour. He is a little greenie pig. I bought some Booda chew things in chicken flavor. They look more like a triangle shape with rounded edges. He finally started to like them, but he threw up after eating part of one. The vomit looked like scrambled eggs with very hard pieces of what felt like plastic in it. I don't think he was chewing it up good enough and swallowing big chunks, so I took it away from him.
My dogs LOVE greenies. I only use them when I leave for work, so I don't really know how long they last. It just really cuts down on separation anxiety. If you are worried about the cost, there are LOTS of websites with cheaper prices on greenies. From the posts, I think that freezing the greenies might be more effective than just getting bigger and bigger ones. I'm going to try it.
