There are like a zillion ways to get a dog who looks like She does, so I wouldn't worry about what breeds are in her genetic make-up. When you post fliers or run an add, you don't want to give out too much information anyway because you don't want to accidentally give her to someone who will use her as a bait dog. When you describe her to the animal shelter, you can just say she is a medium reddish mutt. Someone who is looking for a lost dog will follow any lead that is a remote possibility. She is adorable, and I can understand why the kids want to keep her. But, of course, you're doing the right thing by trying to find the owner. Last November I found a rott mutt who was wearing a collar without tags. She was spayed and housebroken. She also knew how to sit on command and was good about coming when called. I posted flyers, ran an add in the paper, and filed a report with the SPCA, but I never received a single call about her. Her name is McKeever now, and she has her entire 60 pound body in my lap as I type this post. So, you may want to start thinking about what you want to do if nobody claims her.
Well, I ended up bringing her inside last night and putting Duncan back out in the pen. All 3 girls got along really well, with the exception of a few snarls over bones. She was crated and I had to fight her to get into the crate but she was quiet through the night. She isnt interested in eating just yet but I cant say I blame her, she will in time. Someone has taken the time to train her, there were no accidents in the house and she listened well when I gave her a command. I just wish I could put a name with the command. I will be calling the local shelter this morning and informing them of her. I wont give any more info than necessary but I am sure the owner will be able to tell me all about her over the phone before any viewing such as a name, breed, markings, size, color of collar, etc. Hopefully someone is missing her by now. Fingers still crossed.
GBAT1STOP: Happy anniversary! Any luck with the pup this morning. Let's start thinking of names? Did you get the poodle yet? Did I miss something? Well good luck and hopefully the owner comes up. I am sure if she is really missing someone is freaking out but at least they know that she was in good hands.
Thank You Aisha. The local shelter isn't open til 9am and I have 42 minutes left. I dont want to start thinking of names just yet....lol. No poodle yet but he is still available. I have to wait til Ruthie is back home first. Right now I have my hands full. Duncan does not like all these females in his home so he is outside and the girls are inside and getting along well, so far. (knocking on wood) Yes, she is in good hands. I cannot get her to eat or drink though. She appears to be fine so am hoping it is just her nerves. If I dont hear something today, I will be taking her to my vet tomorrow just to be on the safe side.
UPDATE: I have contacted the local shelter and no one has reported her missing as of 9am central time and it is 11:32 now. My daughter did, however, come up with a name she will come to..........Missy, so that is who she will be until further notice. I have left my name and phone # with a brief description with AC so I guess I will just wait it out.
