So Hunter has been potty trained for alittle while now. And at night I don't even have to get up to take him out anymore(he sleeps in his crate). He goes potty on command, and whenever I am in a situation where he can't be in crate (like when I went to my mum's ranch this weekend) I just put him on a very short leash at night with a blanket and he doesn't go then either. But he has gone to the bathroom twice in the car. The first time was a week and a half ago, we went for a drive in the mountains. We kept stopping on frequent breaks to let him go. The weirdest thing is that we don't just let him climb around in the car. We have a blanket on the floor on the passenger side, and he lays there while we're driving. So it's a small area. Just as small as his crate. And when he pees, he doesn't whine or stand up or sniff or anything. He will just be laying there and just start peeing where he lays! He doesn't even stand up to do it. He did it again today when we were coming back from my mum's ranch. I had him go to the bathroom before we left and didn't give him any water before we left, and the drive is only 2 hours, and one hour into the drive, he was literally laying there and just started peeing. I know the car isn't the reason, because he is VERY mellow in the car and usually just sleeps the whole time. Car rides don't make him nervous. And I know it's not an infection, because he does not do it any other times. It's also not the blanket he is laying on, because the first time he did it, I poured enzyme cleaner on the pee spot and then washed the blanket and have not used it in the car since. This time we used a different blanket. He has a blanket in his crate and has never done this. I think I'm really confused because he doesn't whine or stand up or anything when he does it. He will just start peeing as he's laying there. It's really weird. And I don't get how he can go 8 hours without going to the bathroom at night without any problems, but can't hold it in the car for very long at all. Anyone have a dog that has done this and how did you fix it? It's very frustrating.
scout's pooped twice in my car. once cause i didn't give her enough time to go before we left for work. she started having a fit in the car, nothing unusual though cause she hates the car so having a fit is normal, so i didn't put it together. the second time i gave her plenty of time to go and she didn't and pooped again on our way to work. the first time she pooped on my seat, thank you scout !! i don't know how to break them of it. scout is the first dog who has done that to me, and it hasn't happened in a long time. good luck because i think that is the worst place for them to have an accident.
