We are going crazy with Kenai, he is not quite 8 months old yet, and for those who do not know he is a Pomeranian. He is at that age where he pretty much will hump anything on four legs, he is getting better and he is leaving Naku and the Cats alone now but poor Sulah(the female Pom) she keeps growling at him at snapping whenever he gets too much, but now it has gotten to the point that we cannot even have them out of the crate at the same time. Whenever we have them out together, if we stop him from humping her, then he barks at her, non stop. When he is outside, and she stops him, he just stands behind her and barks and barks and barks. My fiancee' is going crazy. None of our other poms have ever acted like this, and none of them bothered the females until they were in heat. Anytime he sees her, he starts shaking and whining. Anybody else have any ideas on why he wants her so bad when she is not in heat?? Or how to get him to chill out?
Dominance...My big white Field Lab bitch gleefully humps her sister everytime I put them out. Before she goes potty. I guess it's important to her. She's nuts anyway. Her sis is so polite about it all.
But how do I get him to stop?? His barking is driving everyone crazy, he stands there and barks and then he starts scratching his feet into our carpet. He just won't quit, I think he is going to give himself a heart attack.
I meant to say, also, I wonder what the neighbors think. It's in full view of both their houses, and panorama view special for passing cars on street behind me. Maybe I should charge money for the show.
Oh goodness, well you know i have no advice at this point, but i like you to know that i still respond and feel for ya......... Do u breed them too? WOW, i am guessing he isnt fixed...... or is he? Sorry no suggestions of course, now if it was a cat question..............lol Good luck.
Well Katz, I don't know about heart attack, but what will you tell people when they ask how you keep your dogs in such good shape? I just consider it part of Tanya's exercise, like Yoga, only nastier. Oh, I had a Lab stud pup that used to hump the cat, little hussy loved it. Still eyes the dogs thinking one of them will be her big yellow boyfriend...
lmao kitty!! Jeezy, yes I breed them, he is not fixed and he is not old enough to be bred yet at all. We are hoping that he will be a good specimen to breed but I think that he already has decided he is fine. Sulah, poor girl, just can't stand him. And Naku, could really care less. He also seems to have a fondness for a friends Schipperke! Help my dog is dying without any!!! He is truly horny I swear! I have never had a pom want a girl like this, it was like he hit 6 months and got hormones! I feel like just stuffing him in a box for a year and then seeing if he will work in our breeding program, if not we can fix the little turd, if he does, then I can let him have a hayday! Just so you know, we are not the type of breeders who have pups and if they don't work out we sell them, we will keep this brat regardless, lol! I love him to death and this is have of it. He looks so funny and he talks like he is saying 'come on, just a little, please!!!!!' and then he looks at us like it is our fault! My poor dog! lol
That'd just drive me nuts. I think I'd have to break out the vinegar/water on him for the 'give me nookie/let me dominate you now or I am going to bark enough to drive you out of your last brain cell' behavior. I can't stand it when a dog barks for no real reason other than to get attention. I hate to say it but since he's only doing it with one dog out of all of your dogs, there's a chance he may do it forever unless you can find some way of distracting him. I wouldnt' hold my breath on the distracting, unless you go with negative reinforcement for the behavior (squirt bottle), it sounds like he's pretty focused on the female. I guess I'm of the opinion that I draw the line on the bad behavior. If I wasn't able ot stop him from doing that, I'd seriously consider getting him neutered, breeding dog or no. Or keeping him 100% seperate from Sulah so he doesn't bother her and maybe he gets over his attitude/lust.
Sorry, Min: I rarely disagree w/ you. I bred to a Master Hunter, both NAHRA&AKC...Even the bitches in his pedigree were National Field Champs...lovely pedigree. Took a consideral amount of coaxing to get him near the bitch. I asked the owner, what usually happens, in the past, when he shows interest in a bitch? Oh, the man said, I kick him in the ass. Must focus on the bird, the field etc... This stud took 4 handlers many days to reform. Boy, was he gonzo when he knew he was not going to get punished for it.
Well, I agree with Min, since Poms are not field champs, and I don't think they'll ever be. I do see your point, but Poms are little balls of energy, so I think Kenai will be more than happy to do the duty when the time is right :) ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
