Hi guys...When I first got Winnie(Lab) over a year ago I was feeding her Canidae. She did great on it, and her coat looked amazing. Then I switched her food a couple times after I got my two other pups to try some new stuff. I used Innova which made her poop a lot and her coat didnt look as good, and she gained a lot of weight. Now they are on Chicken Soup. I really want to switch back to Canidae but my Vet was saying she does not like foods that are for all life stages b/c puppies and adult dogs have differnt needs and if you feed them a food for all life stages one of them is probley not getting something in their food that they need. What do you guys think about this? If I switch to Canidae Winnie will be doing good agian and her coat will look better, and I can feed it to all of them and wont have to buy 3 differnt types of food. So what should I do, I cant decide? Thanks
I agree with your vet personally. That's always been my biggest complaint about canidae, that they claim that your dog will eat appropriate amounts of food to balance out the nutritional requirements... that makes about as much sense as a doctor telling me if I eat 2 chocolate bars, I need to eat 2x as much meat, vegetables, grain and dairy products to balance out the sugar I just added in. Canidae has a lot of omega fatty acids in it, if the dog's coat doesn't look as good as you like, all you have to do to change that is add a teaspoon of flax seed oil to your dog's food daily. You won't believe the difference in the coat shine. If your lab is getting fat on a particular dog food, that's because different foods have a different fat/protein content and digestibility, so the amount fed has to be adjusted as well.
Just curious - if the Innova was the food that wasn't working out, why do you want to switch from the Chicken Soup? Is it not working out either? I'm feeding my puppy Chicken Soup and would like to hear other's experiences. Why switch now?
Im want to switch them off of chicken soup because they seem to be shedding more, and they seem hungry all the time. They did a lot better on Canidae and it was a lot cheaper. thanks for your advice everyone :)
