I received a letter from our vet yesterday regarding the injection of Proheart6 that my dog received back in July when we first adopted him. The letter was very vague regarding why the vaccine has been ceased. Can someone please tell me what the story behind the whole thing is? Thanks.
i will say in somewhat of a defense of fort dodge we had a dog who got sick very shortly after the proheart injection. fort dodge has spent literally thousand's of dollars having every diagnostic test known to vet medicine done for this dog, trying to determine whether it was the proheart injection or not that caused this dog to get sick. it was determined that in this particular case it wasn't the injection that caused the illness in the dog but it just showed that the company did at least do the right thing for this animal.
Funny. I will still use their vaccines, but I got the impression that Fort Dodge just blew me off...I had given their Puppy shot booster to seven different dogs. 3 had Lepto reactions (1 was severe). I talked to them. I have heard of Lepto reactions but have never seen 1, much less 3. I have given shots for over 20 yrs. They chalked it up to allergic reaction in the individual dogs. One dog had had Lepto before, w/no reaction. FD were unwilling even to change the vaccines for a different batch. I have $70 worth of vaccines that I'm afraid to use. They did not seem to care. Guess w/ the heart stuff they were PROVEN wrong and were more accomodating.
